Maelin’s cipher readings withstand the elders’ questions. By midnight, Lute has accepted her credibility, while Maelin remains with the council to map the Registry chain and Zey keeps the discussion moving.
Nadia leaves Zey’s residence alone beneath a moon veiled by thin cloud. The black vellum rests inside her coat, and the Registry cipher wheel lies secured at her belt.
The Mythic Forest closes around her as she travels west, swallowing the village’s last lamplight. She reaches the raid camp without breaking a branch or disturbing the dark.

Nadia Veyas
The camp is larger than the companies Ferric promised.
Crouched among cedar shadows, Nadia studies the guarded entrance. Patrols circle in measured pairs, watchfires mark the perimeter, and supply carts move between canvas barracks under strict supervision.
Beyond the orderly movement, the sprawling camp’s central command tent rises beneath a dark crimson standard. Ferric and the sergeant remain somewhere within, unseen behind layers of guards and canvas.
A supply trench interrupts the nearest patrol circuit, creating a narrow route through stacked crates and shadowed wagons toward the command tent. Nadia settles lower, measuring the timing before moving.
Director's note
Enter Renault Solveig, now on guard duty at the gate entrance, standing down the two at post, who now move inside the walls
“*Nadia spots a familiar figure, one she recognizes all too well. She'd stayed put in her hiding spot near the front gates. Studying the man. Confirming who she thinks he is and how he stands guard, while keeping herself hidden and out of sight.*”

“*Nadia spots a familiar figure, one she recognizes all too well. She'd stayed put in her hiding spot near the front gates. Studying the man. Confirming who she thinks he is and how he stands guard, while keeping herself hidden and out of sight.*”
SUCCESS (Good Perception, rolled +1)

From her cedar shadow, Nadia studies the familiar officer at the gate. Recognition settles with certainty: the sergeant is the sergeant, posted beneath the crimson standard and watching every approach.
The sergeant keeps his attention moving between the forest edge, the supply road, and the sentries beside him. His stance is disciplined, but his duty is observation rather than command of the whole camp.

The Sergeant
You two, inside the walls. Take the next circuit and report to the watch sergeant.
The two guards obey without question, crossing through the gate and disappearing among the barracks. The sergeant remains outside, now alone at the post, his gaze returning to the dark tree line.

Nadia Veyas
Renault Solveig is guarding the entrance himself, and he is watching for movement from the forest.
Nadia remains concealed and memorizes his pattern: a measured scan, a glance toward the inner road, then another check of the trees. She confirms both his identity and the narrow limits of his post.
✓ Quest Accepted
Get past the camp’s entrance
Director's note
Solveig would see Nadia's tail. but wouldn't make out any other detail other than that it was a tail. He'd leave his post to investigate.
Director's note
Once Solveig is around the corner, all he'd see is the shadow of a small Wolf-girl facing away from him with a sheathed katana; he won't have time to say anything first
Director's note
She talks with a eerily steady and quiet voice. He'd recognize it.
“* She grins; she has an idea... a cheeky one. She'd wait for Solveig to turn away, then she'd make her move. She's quick and light on her feet; she'd move to the left wall, but make her tail visible for only a split second to lure Solveig for a "chat". She'd stop, not visible from the entrance or any possible watchtower or post.* * Once she'd heard Solveig had rounded the corner and had eyes on her, she'd speak* Guardsman Solveig... It's been a while... has it.... you remember the Massacre... do you not? It was your first deployment... a rookie. Do you remember the girl you held against her will? Do you not?”
SUCCESS (Great Stealth, rolled +2)

Nadia waits for Renault’s measured scan to turn away. Then she slips along the left wall, exposing her tail for one fleeting instant before vanishing beyond the entrance’s sightline.
The sergeant catches only that brief tail and leaves his post to investigate. Inside the walls, the two relieved guards continue toward the next circuit.
Renault rounds the corner and finds a small wolf-girl standing with her back to him, a sheathed katana at her side. No watchtower overlooks the narrow space.

Nadia Veyas
Guardsman Solveig... It has been a while, has it? You remember the massacre, do you not? It was your first deployment, a rookie.

The Sergeant
That voice... Nadia.

Nadia Veyas
Do you remember the girl you held against her will? Do you not?

The Sergeant
The child from Amethyst. The one Ferric made me hold while he carried out the order.

“*Nadia chuckles; it wasn't a funny chuckle, it was a maniacal one. Turning around to face the officer, stepping out of the shadows slightly, hands behind her back, in a menacing/cutesy way; the smile she gave him was NOT one of friendliness.* So you do... believe what you saw had happened, and believed the reports. And now I stand here... at your doorstep... ready to commit another atrocity to those you believe to be a threat..... well... I'M now the threat... and your captain is none the wiser. So tell me... how will you get out of this? You and i both know if you try something it won't end well. I'm too fast for you, no matter what you do.”
SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +1)

Nadia Veyas
So you do believe what you saw happened, and believed the reports. Now I stand at your doorstep, ready to commit another atrocity against those you call a threat. I am the threat, and your captain is none the wiser. Tell me, how will you get out of this? You know trying anything will end badly. I am too fast for you.
Nadia chuckles, the sound sharp and unhinged in the narrow passage. She turns to face Renault, stepping just beyond the shadows with her hands behind her back and a small, menacingly sweet smile.

The Sergeant
She is right. I cannot reach my sword before she reaches me, and calling the post would bring the entire camp running without changing what she can do.
Renault’s hand stops short of his weapon. The confidence drains from his stance as he studies the sheathed katana, then Nadia’s fixed eyes. Behind the wall, the relieved guards continue inward, unaware.

The Sergeant
I do not get out of this by fighting you. I get out by taking you to Ferric before anyone else sees you here. If you mean to expose what he did, then you need him facing you, not a frightened sergeant in a passage.
He lowers his hand and steps aside, leaving the route toward the crimson command tent open. Renault’s fear remains plain, but so does his acceptance that Nadia controls this encounter.
“*Nadia looks straight at the now uneased Solveig.* "i do not need you escorting me.. you know my skills already; if you didn't see me, then none of your men will. Even with the camp lanterns lit. All you need to do... is turn a blind eye. Do what you can do, divert men away from Ferric's tent. Even his guards. Do anything to get in my way, and I will deal with you later, i do not care that you were ordered to. you BOTH have done me wrong. Don't piss me off. *She looks for any ill will in his eyes and his body language before she walks*”
SUCCESS (Great Willpower, rolled +3)

Nadia Veyas
I do not need you escorting me. Turn a blind eye and divert your men, even the guards around Ferric’s tent. Get in my way, and I will deal with you later. You both have wronged me. Do not piss me off.
Nadia studies Renault’s eyes, shoulders, and hand near his weapon. Fear remains, but no ambush forms in his posture; his resistance gives way to deliberate submission.

The Sergeant
She will pass every watch I leave intact. Better to choose what the camp sees than let her choose what it loses.

The Sergeant
I will do it. The next circuit passes the command tent in moments. I can send those guards to the east stores and report a false movement there.
Renault steps into the passage and signals the two Royal Guard soldiers inside the walls. He redirects them toward the eastern stores, then remains at the entrance, facing outward as though nothing changed.

The Sergeant
The rear service flap of the command tent is unguarded during the change. Go now, and you will reach it unseen. I will keep every eye that matters elsewhere.
Nadia walks past him without escort. Behind her, the diverted guards vanish toward the stores, while Renault holds his post and gives the camp no reason to question the empty passage.
Director's note
Nadia will reach Ferric's private command tent undetected and unnoticed. As it is past midnight, no one will be present other than the Captain himself; he will be seated at his table. facing away from the rear flap, as that flap is not used. And those in the camp know this.
Director's note
he'd indeed be caught off guard. As he would think everyone was dead from the previous attack in the area, he'd initially think he was either being haunted or going crazy.
“*Arriving at the tent's rear entrance, she'd slip in unnoticed and position herself in a dark corner, quietly and slowly drawing her katana from its sheath. She'd then make herself known within the tent, catching the unaware captain off guard, but not revealing her actual position just yet.* Ferric Yullener...Captain of the Guard..... you thought you could escape from your actions....? *she'd quietly say, just enough for him to hear the voice and recognize it...*”
SUCCESS (Great Stealth, rolled +0)

Nadia slips through the command tent’s unused rear flap without stirring its ties. Past midnight, only Ferric sits at the campaign table, facing away from her in the lamplit silence.
She settles into a dark corner behind him and draws the Violet Katana by careful inches. The blade leaves its sheath without a scrape, its edge catching no more than a thin line of light.

Nadia Veyas
Ferric Yullener... Captain of the Guard... You thought you could escape from your actions...?

The Captain
That voice. No. The dead do not walk into my tent.
Ferric’s chair shifts sharply, but he does not yet turn. His hand moves toward the weapon at his belt while his eyes search the tent’s visible corners, finding no intruder.

The Captain
Nadia. You are dead. I watched the village burn, and I received the report myself.
The captain remains turned from the hidden corner, facing the empty rear flap instead. His voice tries for certainty, but the abandoned tent gives his disbelief nowhere to hide.
“you think that... because you sliced me yourself...but you didn't make sure I was dead... you were sloppy... *The voice draws closer to Ferric until she is right behind him. It would be too late for him to react. The chair is kicked from behind, dropping him to the floor. As he looks up, he sees the supposed "ghost" of Nadia Veyes, only that she wasn't a ghost, still flesh and blood. Now, he could see her face; he could see the damage he'd done instead of killing her. Last but not least. There's a katana hovering above his neck.* you still are... *she'd say, the remaining red eye once again glowing with rage and hatred. The girl he thought he dropped is now a force to be reckoned with.* I'm answering the threats you tried to give my people. I'm your answer, and now you're stuck with me. So I'll repeat what I said to a certain Sentinar. you cannot beat me if you try in this scenario; you never will. Your only choice is to answer my questions....”
SUCCESS (Great Stealth, rolled +1)

Nadia Veyas
You think that because you sliced me yourself. But you never made sure I was dead. You were sloppy.
Nadia’s voice draws close behind Ferric. Before he can turn, her boot strikes the chair, sending him hard to the floor as she steps into view, flesh and blood beneath the lamplight.
Ferric looks up into Nadia’s damaged face. The Violet Katana hovers above his neck, its edge steady while her remaining red eye burns with restrained fury.

Nadia Veyas
You still are. I am answering the threats you gave my people. I am your answer, and now you are stuck with me.

Nadia Veyas
You cannot beat me in this scenario. You never will. Your only choice is to answer my questions.
Ferric’s hand freezes beside his belt. The command tent remains empty beyond them, and the captain’s authority has narrowed to the space beneath Nadia’s blade.

The Captain
You came here for answers, then. Lower the blade, and perhaps I will decide whether you deserve them.
His words carry the old command in them, but the floor has taken his leverage. Nadia’s sword does not waver, and Ferric cannot mistake who controls the next breath.
“heh...you think I'm stupid..."Captain"? you don't hold authority here... *she'd say cold and bluntly* * She'd suddenly make a fast slice across the leather belt holding Ferric's scabbard in place, both disarming him and making her point even clearer. She'd kick the scabbard out of arm's reach; before he could ever hope to react, the tip of the katana was again at his neck. His little bit of leverage is now gone.* you either play nice...or you won't ever leave this tent again. Do I make myself clear to you....murderer...?”
SUCCESS (Great Melee Weapons, rolled -1)

Nadia Veyas
You think I am stupid, Captain? You hold no authority here. Play nice, or you will never leave this tent. Do I make myself clear, murderer?
The Violet Katana flashes across Ferric’s leather belt. The cut parts it cleanly, and his scabbard drops free before her boot kicks it beyond his reach. The blade’s tip returns to his neck at once.

The Captain
You mistake a moment’s advantage for power. Cut my belt, take my sword, and still you are standing alone in an Imperial camp.
Ferric’s fingers spread against the floor. He does not reach for the discarded scabbard; the steel at his throat makes the choice plain, while lamplight catches the cold calculation returning to his face.

Nadia Veyas
Then answer me. Who authorized the Ashen Registry operation against the four Wolsurian clans?

The Captain
You have been digging through matters beyond your understanding. The Registry does not answer to a village survivor with a sword. But if you want names, ask about the Emperor’s war council, not me.

Nadia Veyas
You speak of warlords, generals, and the Emperor himself. I know who you answer to. Were those the same orders you followed when you massacred my people?
Nadia leans close, crimson eyes glowing as her low growl fills the tent. Her grin bares no uncertainty. Ferric hears the question become a demand, and understands that she controls the encounter.

Nadia Veyas
Before you try anything, listen. I covered every attempt at help. We are alone, Ferric, and you cannot leave.
The captain’s calculation falters. His discarded scabbard lies beyond his reach, the tent flap remains unused, and no answering footstep comes from outside. His authority has no witness here.

The Captain
Yes. The massacre was carried out under the same chain of orders. The Emperor’s war council authorized the operation, and I received the command through my superiors.
Ferric’s admission settles between them without disguise. He keeps his hands spread against the floor, but his eyes remain hard, as though obedience could still make the slaughter lawful.

The Captain
I acted on direct orders then, and I act on them now. The clans were marked as threats before I ever reached your village.
The Violet Katana remains poised at his throat. Ferric has answered the question plainly, leaving the Emperor’s war council and the Ashen Registry exposed as parts of the same command.

I saw it firsthand 16 years ago. And I saw it again yesterday. So I know you won't care what I say now.. You are being deceived. We posed no threat to your empire. My people have lived for millennia with no quarrel, until you wiped my village off the map. And you enjoyed it.... * She began with reasoning, before it became anger once more. She knows it wouldn't matter to this man. The katana was now mere centimeters from his larynx.* I will ask one more question... do you feel at least any remorse...any guilt... a second though... *The wolf-girl does not move; she does not pull back or shiver. The question was blunt, non-emotional. Ferric could feel the pain behind the deadpan voice, the pain he caused under orders of the empire.*”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +3)

Nadia Veyas
I know you serve an Emperor without a name, and I know what you are: a ruthless monster who treats his men as tools. I saw it sixteen years ago, and again yesterday. You deceived yourself. We were never a threat. Tell me, Ferric: do you feel any remorse? Any guilt?
The Violet Katana’s point remains centimeters from Ferric’s throat. Nadia’s voice stays level, stripped of pleading, and the captain’s practiced defiance finds no room to hide behind.

The Captain
No. I feel no remorse for the dead, and no guilt for obeying the Emperor’s command. I knew your people were not a military threat. That was never the reason.
Ferric’s answer comes without hesitation. His eyes remain cold beneath the blade, but the admission strips away the last pretense that duty or fear compelled the massacre.

The Captain
The war council wanted the clans removed before their existence became leverage against Imperial expansion. I carried out the order because I believed obedience was the only law that mattered.
His confession gives Nadia the truth she demanded, and something beyond it: Ferric reveals that the original authorization is kept in a sealed black ledger beneath the campaign table.

The Captain
The ledger names the councilors who authorized the operation. It is beneath this table, in the iron compartment. Take it, if you want proof strong enough to reach Renova.

Nadia opens the drawer.. but does not take it immediately. She stops.* *Ferric had stood back up, attempting to regain his composure and dusting himself off.* I've waited 16 years for this....." *Nadia says suddenly and coldly; in a blur, the Violet Katana would take its first life. The katana pierced Ferric's neck in a vital spot. * i won't let you take any more lives.... *Nadia's last words to Ferric were that.”
SUCCESS (Great Melee Weapons, rolled +0)

Nadia Veyas
The evidence is appreciated.
Nadia withdraws the Violet Katana from Ferric’s throat and steps aside. He rises, dusting himself off and rebuilding his composure while she opens the iron compartment beneath the table. The black ledger waits inside, untouched.

Nadia Veyas
I’ve waited sixteen years for this.
Before Ferric can turn fully, Nadia crosses the space in a blur. The Violet Katana strikes his neck with lethal precision, and the captain collapses beside the campaign table. His life ends before the ledger can leave its compartment.

Nadia Veyas
I won’t let you take any more lives.
Silence returns to the command tent. Ferric lies motionless on the floor, while the open compartment reveals the sealed black ledger naming the war councilors behind the operation.
“*Nadia flings the katana sideways, flinging off any blood on it, and sheaths it behind her back. She walks to the drawer and takes the ledger. After securing the folder, she exits the way she came in, quickly and quietly. Only this time, she hurdles the left makeshift wall while no guard is walking past. She knows now that, without a Captain, the guard will be in disarray, halting any hopes for a coordinated attack. She'd retreat quickly back into the Mystic Forest. Leaving the camp behind, without a trace that she was even present.*”
SUCCESS (Great Stealth, rolled +3)
Nadia flings the Violet Katana aside, then catches it cleanly and wipes its last red trace from the blade before sheathing it across her back. Ferric’s body remains beside the table.
She opens the iron compartment, takes the sealed black ledger, and secures it beneath her coat. Its cover bears a second marking: a narrow red line beneath the war council’s seal, indicating the ledger contains campaign authorizations, not merely names.
Nadia slips through the unused rear flap and crosses the command tent’s shadowed perimeter. Beyond the canvas, distant voices falter as the captain’s absence begins to ripple through the camp, but no one sees her.

Nadia Veyas
Without Ferric, their attack has lost its command.
She reaches the makeshift wall as the nearest patrol turns away. Renault remains at the entrance, facing outward, while the two diverted Royal Guard soldiers move inside the walls. Nadia vaults the wall in one silent motion.
Her landing leaves no disturbed earth. She passes beneath the cedars, using the patrol gaps and the forest’s deeper shadows until the watchfires vanish behind her. The ledger stays dry and secure against her ribs.
By the time the camp stirs into confused orders, Nadia is already beyond its perimeter and moving west through the Mythic Forest. No alarm follows her, and the ledger has reached her hands intact.
