Veyran

Established in play: Rose requires more time to take complete control of Mariposo’s body than is depicted here. Rose cannot yet take complete control of Mariposo’s body. Evidence of the crown’s suppression payments exists in multiple copies, with one copy remaining hidden with Mariposo. Veyran’s sacrifice has separated Mariposo from the crown’s immediate grasp, but Veyran is now in royal custody.

Chapter 1: The Sacrifice Beneath Saint Orra At the Brilliant Beard Tavern, Mariposo, disguised as Rose, accepted Veyran’s commission to conceal evidence of the crown’s suppression of the Rhukkhadevata. Captain Coldcock’s search forced Mariposo through the cellar, where he recovered a ledger and sealed packet proving royal payments for the erasure of the records. Veyran revealed the Royal Comptroller’s role, and Mariposo confessed that he was a surviving Rhukkhadevata, binding them in alliance. With Carmin’s aid, they escaped through the old mint and the flooded cistern, then reached refuge in the Emerald Jungle. At the Ruined shrine of Saint Orra, they learned that Captain Coldcock had led the slaughter under royal orders and created a second copy of the evidence. When the royal warrant-bearer arrived, Mariposo resisted Rose, killed her, and fled north with the copied page. Veyran stayed beneath Saint Orra’s fallen arch and surrendered to Coldcock, claiming the fugitive was gone. The records remain divided and protected, while Veyran is in royal custody and Mariposo remains hunted.
