The Goddess Demands the Debt

The Goddess of Ash descends, her feet barely brushing the shifting dust of the crypt floor. She drifts toward Eolsi like a funeral shroud caught in a draft, her eyes burning with the cold hunger of an eternal furnace. She ignores the frozen statue of Kaelen entirely, her focus locked solely on the boy who dares to host her essence.

This vessel is brittle, yet it pulses with a borrowed divinity he cannot hope to contain. I shall peel back the layers of his mind until only the contract remains, and then, the debt will be paid in full.

Your hands tremble, little shadow. You have consumed the relic, but it is I who digests the truth. Hand over your memories, or watch as the static of your own existence unravels into nothingness.

Eolsi

Eolsi

She speaks as if I am already a ghost. If I yield now, the demon within me will have nothing left to anchor to. I must hold the line, even if my marrow turns to ash.

You want the truth? Then look into the void, Goddess. I am not the one who fears the end of the bargain.

You ask about the man hunting you

Goddess of Ash

Your arrogance is a flickering candle in a hurricane, little thief. You think to bargain with me? The one who stalks you with the flame is but a servant, a tool forged by my own hand to scour the rot from this realm.

Eolsi

Eolsi

She is playing me. She uses the fire-wielder as a leash to pull me toward her, to force a reveal I am not yet ready to face. But her pride is her weakness. If the fire-wielder is her tool, I can turn that connection back upon her.

Eolsi

Eolsi

If he is your tool, then tell me his name, Goddess. Or are you afraid that if I know his face, the debt between us will finally be settled in blood instead of shadows?

The boy grows teeth. It is almost amusing to watch him try to bite the hand that grants him sight. I shall give him a name, just to watch the terror take root in his soul.

EXCEPTIONAL NO (Unlikely, rolled 97)

The Goddess of Ash lets out a cold, hollow laugh that vibrates through the very stones of the crypt, her eyes burning with a mockery that denies any familial bond.

The realization hits like a physical blow; the man is not my father, and the void where I hoped for a connection is deeper and colder than I ever imagined.

The truth settles into my bones like frost; the man I sought to understand is not a mere pawn, but a demon king bound in a cage of the Goddess's own making.

The goddess pauses, her flicker of amusement faltering as my voice cuts through the stagnant air. Her gaze hardens, the shadow around her throne pulsing with a sudden, discordant rhythm.

I grip my daggers, the cold steel biting into my palms. Her words carry the weight of authority, but beneath the fear, I sense a tremor of hesitation in her voice. She fears he might actually care.

My fingers trace the freezing, ethereal runes pulsing on Kaelen’s collar, intending to snap the goddess’s hold. Instead of yielding, the magic recoils, a jagged spike of violet lightning lashing out from the crown to sear my knuckles. The force of the surge slams me backward, pinning me against the weeping crypt wall.

You touch what is not yours, thief. You are not a savior. You are a plaything.

My vision blurs as the crypt seems to fold in on itself. The surge didn't just push me back, it burned through my own veil, leaving my senses ringing with the echo of his internal cage. Kaelen’s eyes snap open, burning with a hollow, abyssal light, but he does not look at the goddess. He looks directly at me, his fingers twitching toward the hilt of a blade that isn't there. The air is growing thin, and the shadows are no longer just patches of darkness—they are reaching for my throat.

The pact hums in my blood, but the words catch in my throat like shards of glass. I try to reach out, to weave my soul into his, but the Goddess’s static field is too dense. My reach flickers and dies, leaving me gasping as the connection fails.

You bargain with a cage, little thief. Your desperation is a pathetic fuel.

The crown pulses, not with light, but with a rhythmic, suffocating void. Kaelen’s hand doesn't grab for a blade; he grips the air, and the very gravity in the crypt shifts, pulling the debris of the walls toward him like a magnet. I am left exposed, my palms raw from the shock, realizing the king isn't waking up to help me. He is waking up to reclaim his realm, and I am standing directly in his path of expansion. The stone floor beneath me begins to splinter and fold, dropping away into a bottomless dark.

The pact screams. My skin burns, not with heat, but with the cold, abyssal pressure of the void. I tear the veil of my own limitations, letting the demon blood surge through my veins. The scar on my chest flares, turning my vision into a tapestry of shifting shadows and pulsating energy. My grip on reality blurs, and I feel my form elongating, my fingernails hardening into obsidian claws as the demon fairy essence spills out to coat my frame in a shimmering, dark carapace.
