Dust settles in lazy sheets through the pub lights. Scott stands in the doorway with the last tool in hand, the frame solid now, the whole room finally breathing again.

Patrick snorts, then reaches up to straighten his pirate coat like the chaos never happened. Darcy wipes her hands on a rag and gives the repaired entrance one last firm look, calm returning to her shoulders.

The refrigerator hums. Boston traffic murmurs beyond the fixed doorway. For a moment, the pub feels less like a recovery site and more like home waiting to happen.

Patrick coughs into his fist, ears red, and starts backing toward the hallway. Darcy snorts once, then rolls her shoulders like the last of the repair work is finally leaving them.

The front lights glow steady over the repaired doorway. Somewhere outside, the first curious footsteps slow near the threshold, and the pub feels ready to answer them.

Scott swings the door open, and the little knot of waiting faces outside loosens into smiles and half-relieved laughter. Patrick ducks his head toward the hallway, trying not to grin.

Scott steps aside and opens the pub fully to the street, making room instead of rushing them. The first regulars drift in with that cautious, grateful look people wear after a bad night, and the room seems to breathe with them.

Patrick comes back from the hallway, wiping his hands on his apron, and starts guiding people toward the nearest tables with practiced ease. The front mat catches one muddy boot, and he laughs it off before anyone can apologize.

Darcy leans into the bar, taps the repaired main line with two fingers, and watches the first pour run clean. A couple of customers trade relieved glances at the sight, then settle in like the night has finally decided to behave.

Scott's welcome lands, but it costs him a sharp twinge through his shoulder from holding the door and the frame so long. Outside, more faces gather at the threshold, waiting to see if there is room for them too.
