Adventure of Lazorus Kan 1

As Mara watches the tree line, the blanket around Lylith shifts without any movement from Lazorus. A small hand presses briefly against the cloth, then vanishes beneath it.

Beyond the stones, the Unseen Follower withdraws at once. Its cold distortion slides backward through the trees, as though it has recognized a summons older than the ring.

The lantern flame gutters behind its shutter. Amber light leaks across the nearest stone, exposing fresh cuts that glisten as if the rock has only just been opened.

The writing resolves into a narrow, uneven line: RETURN WHAT WAS TAKEN. Beneath it, a second mark resembles a small hand pressed into stone.

Mara lowers the lantern, but the flame steadies only enough to keep the inscription visible. From the forest, the withdrawing presence leaves no sound behind.

Lazorus raises one hand and pronounces the Latin invocation. His eyes kindle with faint iridescent blue as the stones answer with a low vibration beneath his boots.

The ground inside the ring darkens in three places. Soil loosens without a shovel, and three long-dead bodies rise together, clothed in rotted burial garments and bound to his command.

The buried dead form a silent barrier around Lazorus and Lylith. Beyond them, the Unseen Follower remains withdrawn among the pines, its cold presence recoiling from the circle.

The spell takes its price. Black frost crawls from Lazorus’s raised palm to his wrist, numbing two fingers while the blue light in his eyes gutters and returns.
