Lockdown in the Server Room

Red strobes wash the server room in pulses. The emergency siren starts, cuts, then screams again. Fans howl behind the racks. Justin Forester stands at his terminal when the security door slams into lockdown.

The CEO, Adrian Vale, bursts in on the next alarm cycle. He drags a rolling cabinet against the door and jams a chair under the handle with shaking hands.

Adrian Vale

Justin, get me out. Bypass it now, I need an exit route.

Adrian points hard at the terminal, then flicks a fast, worried look toward Justin Forester’s laptop on the workbench. His chest rises too fast, and his tie hangs loose like he ran here.

Justin Forester

Justin Forester

The lockdown is facility-wide. He is scared, and he wants the terminal.

A second impact rattles the barricaded door. Somewhere beyond it, bootsteps and muffled voices move through the corridor. The monitor throws pale login fields across Justin Forester’s glasses.

Adrian Vale

Adrian Vale

I am not asking twice. Open the route, or we stay here until they get through.

Adrian keeps one hand on the chair brace and the other half-raised toward the keyboard, not quite reaching, not quite backing off. The siren keeps drilling into the room as the terminal waits for input.

✓ Quest Accepted

Bypass the lockdown and open an exit route for Adrian Vale

Can I pull up a camera view so I can manipulate door locks to clear us a route to the garage?

NO, BUT (Likely, rolled 68)

The terminal interface rejects the command, flashing a crimson access denied warning across the screen. The facility security protocols remain locked tight, and the camera feeds are completely severed from the local network.

Can I instead set the locks to make us a defined route to the garage? I won't know the conditions, due to lack of camera access, but I can secure a route out.

NO (Likely, rolled 89)

The system architecture is too rigid to allow for a manual override of the routing protocols. Every attempt to reroute the lockdown sequence results in a hard system crash that prevents any path to the garage from being established.

"Computers are locked down. We will need to find an alternative way out." I say, knowing I can't actually trust Adrian.

SUCCESS (Good Reasoning, rolled +0)

Lockdown in the Server Room

Justin shuts the terminal down and scans the server room instead. The reinforced service hatch behind the racks is unlabeled, but its hinges are external.

We need an alternative way out.

Adrian freezes, then points at the hatch. A narrow maintenance corridor is visible through a half-open vent panel beside it, dim but clear enough to crawl.

Adrian Vale

That leads somewhere? Then open it.

Justin crouches and works the release. The latch gives with a metallic snap, and the hatch swings inward on a stripped frame.

Cold air spills in from the corridor, carrying the distant thud of boots in the hall. Adrian steps toward the opening, tense and ready to bolt.

I hear you in there. Open up, now.

The corridor waits, dark and serviceable, while the voice outside closes in on the newly opened exit.
