The violet pulse steadies, then the dust ahead coils upward in a sudden spiral. From it, a robed shape condenses, tall and faceless, its outline shearing the dark with ancient light.

The Voice

The Voice

Xem. Turn back. This threshold is not for you.

Its command slams through the corridor. Ysren goes still beside Xem, silent under the weight of that presence, while the sigil behind the figure throbs like a warning eye.

You carry a broken inheritance. Leave this place before it claims what remains of you.

The voice is making an effort to stay whole.

The robed form flickers at the edges. Violet light leaks through its outline in thin seams, and the wall of aura trembles where it meets the sigil's pulse.

Then it fears fracture, not us.

At the name, the door sigil answers with a low flare. The guardian's shape shivers, and for one brief instant the corridor shows the dark stone through its chest.

The Voice

The Voice

Do not mistake weakness for mercy, Xem. My hold is slipping, and what waits beyond me is older than my warning.
