Thir arrives in a buried gladiator cell where torchlight crawls over wet stone. A young adult prince, lean and dark-haired, with brown skin, an angular face, and a broken gold torque at his throat, is bound to a blood-marked altar in torn blue-and-gold finery.
Four captors turn from the interrupted sacrifice. Their leather masks and hooked blades catch the red light, while black sorcery coils above the altar like a waiting crown.

Caelan
You came through the gladiators' passage. Then you are either my rescue or the pact's final witness.
The captors spread between Thir and the altar. No blade falls, yet the chamber tightens around a command older than any living voice: refuse, or let the rite resume.

Caelan
My name is Caelan, last prince of Veyr. Do not answer the darkness. It is waiting for a refusal.

The Masked Captors
Stand away from the altar. The pact demands a choice, and the blades are patient.
Runes flare beneath Caelan's wrists. The captors hold their ground, and somewhere beyond sight, the sorcery listens for Thir's answer.

“What weapons do I have?”
SUCCESS (Great Perception, rolled +2)

Thir's perception cuts through torch-glare and sorcery. Beneath his travel cloak he carries a broad iron sword at his hip, a skinning knife in his boot, and three balanced throwing knives hidden along his belt.

Thir the masked
Sword, boot knife, three throwing knives. No bow, no crossbow, and no second blade.
The sword's worn grip rests beneath his hand's reach, its plain sheath dark with travel. The knives remain concealed from the captors, while Caelan watches Thir measure the chamber.

Caelan
A sword is honest steel, if nothing else. Those four will know its measure soon enough.

The Masked Captors
Steel will not sever what was sworn beneath this stone.
The black crown above the altar bends toward the sword, reacting to its presence. The inventory is clear, and every weapon is ready to hand.

Throwing Knives
“Fan my throwing knives and throw them at 3 people simitainouously”
SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled +0)

Thir fans the three throwing knives between his fingers. His arm snaps once, and the blades leave together, silver flashes crossing the red torchlight toward three separate captors.
The first knife strikes the captor nearest the altar and knocks him backward from the runes. The second catches the left guard's weapon arm, sending his hooked blade clattering across the stone.
The third knife finds the right guard before he can raise his blade. He folds against a pillar, stunned, while the three struck captors lose their formation.

Masked Captor 4
Sorcery shields the pact, not its servants. You have made this a blood-price.
Only one captor remains standing, a tall, broad-shouldered older woman with a gray braid spilling from her leather mask between Thir and the altar. The black crown twists toward the fallen weapons, and the runes beneath Caelan's wrists flare brighter.

Caelan
Three down. Do not let the last one reach the altar.
“Throw my boot knife directly at her eye”
SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled +1)

Thir's hand drops to his boot. He draws the Skinning Knife in one smooth motion, its short, keen blade settling perfectly into his grip as he sights the remaining masked captor's exposed eye.
His wrist snaps. The Skinning Knife crosses the torchlit chamber without a wobble and strikes the remaining masked captor through the eye, ending her resistance at once.
The tall woman collapses beside the altar, her gray braid sliding across the stone. Her hooked blade drops from numb fingers, and the black crown shudders above Caelan.

Caelan
You have silenced the pact's last servant. Now cut me free before the darkness finds another voice.
The runes beneath Caelan's wrists blaze white, fighting the crown's black coils. The altar's bindings tighten once, then loosen as the dead guard's presence leaves the rite.
For one breath the buried cell falls silent except for dripping water. Thir's boot knife remains buried in the fallen captor, while the broad iron sword waits at his hip.
“Grab all weapons free him with my sword”
SUCCESS (Mediocre Strength, rolled +3)

Thir wrenches the broad iron sword free at his hip and uses its weight to smash the altar's binding pins. The old metal buckles under each deliberate blow.
He crosses the chamber, snatches the fallen hooked blades from beside the three stunned bodies, and pulls his skinning knife from the dead guard's maskless remains.
With every weapon gathered, Thir sets the broad iron sword's edge against the altar cords and saws through them. The runes flare, then snap dark.
The loosened bindings fall from Caelan's wrists. The prince rolls clear of the altar, rubbing the reddened marks as the black crown contracts above him.

Caelan
The pact has lost its altar and its servants. Veyr owes you more than a life, masked one.
The hooked blades lie gathered beside Thir's sword, while his skinning knife returns to his hand. Water drips through the silence, and the crown shrinks to a coal-sized ember.

Caelan
But if that ember reaches the palace, my kingdom will become its next voice.

“Destroy the ember”
SUCCESS (Mediocre Strength, rolled +1)

Thir raises the broad iron sword over the coal-sized ember. He brings its heavy edge down, crushing black sorcery against the altar stone.
The ember splits beneath the sword’s weight. Black fire spills soundlessly into the runes, then gutters out as the blade drives it into dust.

Thir the masked
The crown is gone.
The chamber exhales. White sparks fade from Caelan’s wrists, and the altar’s old stone settles beneath the sword’s buried edge.

Caelan
Then Veyr has one less curse waiting in its halls. But the palace does not know its prince still lives.
Caelan rises unsteadily and retrieves the broken gold torque from the altar floor. He studies the dark passage beyond the cell, where distant bells begin to answer one another.

Caelan
If you mean to claim what power abandoned me, masked one, take me through the gladiators’ passage before those bells summon the palace guard.
