Adventure of Jye-kule 1

Jye-kule swings his weapon in a savage arc, and the engine chamber answers with a burst of sparks. Stone chips fly from the core housing as his strike dents metal, cracks seams, and sends a fresh tremor through the floor.

He follows through with another blow, then another, smashing at the binding cradle and the exposed feed lines. The dead ring shudders on its mounts, already half-collapsed, while dust pours from the ceiling in choking sheets.

The chamber tilts harder beneath him. One wall groans open with a long fracture, and the engine’s pulse stutters, weaker now, as if it can feel its own structure failing.

Above him, The Off-Worlder watches with a narrow, sharpened stare, no longer detached. Below, the core hangs crooked in its frame, one final brace still holding the whole machine together.

Jye-kule plants his feet on the slanted stone and grins through the pain. The engine’s pulse hammers at his ribs, but he swings anyway, driving all that force into the last brace.

The brace snaps under the blow. Metal screams, the core drops sideways, and a bright surge claws through the chamber before the housing bursts open.

The whole room shudders hard. Red light gutters out of the engine, the cracked wall splits wider, and chunks of stone rain down around Jye-kule.

Inside the broken heart, a hidden lattice of dark conduits flickers into view for a breath, then begins to fail with the rest of the machine.

Above, The Off-Worlder leans in at the ledge, watching the exposed mechanism with a grim, exposed stillness. The chamber keeps groaning, and the floor keeps slipping.
