The fortress courtyard lies in jagged ruin, moss slick on broken stone. Blood and ozone hang in the air, sharp and wrong.
Unrok comes into the archway, too broad for the surviving gate, armor scraping rock as he ducks under the lintel.
Across the yard, comrades huddle by shattered pillars and claw through rubble at the collapsed watchtower.
A scout on one knee snaps his head up. He points hard toward the inner sanctum.
The Scout
Unrok, there. They left a trap in the sanctum. It is ticking down.
The scout’s hand trembles, but he keeps pointing. Behind him, one of the wounded comrades looks from Unrok to the sealed inner door, waiting for a choice.

Unrok drives straight for the sanctum door, each stride shaking loose pebbles and old dust. The ticking swells under the stone.
He throws himself over the threshold line, broad body slamming down across the hidden device. The first blast punches under him, loud and hot.
Stone chips whip through the air. Unrok’s armor takes the worst of it, but the shock still bites deep, leaving a fresh crack in one pauldron and a ringing ache through his ribs.

It is stopped! Keep him covered!
A Wounded Comrade
Unrok, move, the wall is giving way!
The ticking dies beneath his weight. Somewhere inside the sanctum, a buried mechanism grinds once, then falls silent.
Behind the door, fresh cracks race across the stonework, and dust pours from the seams. The comrades stare at Unrok, waiting for him to rise before the ruin drops any farther.
