Adventure of nyxous 1

High in the mountain, the narrow cave holds the still body of Pyros, a young adult man with a lean build, pale skin, short brown hair, and a weathered dark coat and the belongings left beside him. Nyxous's grief presses through the cold stone, wings cramped against the walls.

A horn calls from far below, then another answers across the cliffs. Torchlight trembles beneath the ledge, small and amber against the vast night.

Shouts rise through the ravine as ropes tighten and climbing gear scrapes over rock. The search party advances toward the cave mouth, their shadows jerking across the ledge.

The words reach the chamber distorted by wind, but their meaning survives. Below, boots find purchase one careful step at a time, drawing nearer.

Nyxous shifts her weight within the cramped chamber, folding her great wings close enough to reach the belongings beside Pyros without disturbing his still form.

Claws curl carefully around the weathered coat and the other possessions left near him. Leather, metal, and cloth make only a muted rustle against the stone.

She draws everything across the cave floor, inch by inch, guiding the small bundle behind her hind legs and beneath the shelter of her folded secondary wings.

The items settle safely against the rear wall, removed from the cave mouth and hidden behind Nyxous's dark, feathered body.

Outside, ropes scrape and distant voices continue climbing, but nothing enters the chamber. Pyros's belongings remain within Nyxous's reach, protected behind her.

Nyxous lowers her head and tests the cave walls with horn, claw, and keen breath. Cold air threads through a seam behind a curtain of old mineral deposits.

She shifts carefully around Pyros's still form, keeping her folded wings from scraping stone, then presses against the seam. Dust spills as a concealed slab gives way.

A narrow passage opens behind the loosened stone, descending steeply through the mountain. Its ceiling is tight, but the route continues beyond sight and slopes toward the far cliffs.

Nyxous extends one hind foot into the passage and finds solid rock beneath the frost. The hidden exit is wide enough for her body if she folds her wings close.

Their voices echo from the cave mouth. Behind Nyxous, the belongings remain sheltered against the rear wall, while the newly found passage offers a clear way out.

Nyxous folds her great wings tight and advances into the descending passage, claws finding purchase on frost-slick stone. Her tail feathers brush the walls as she passes.

At the narrowest bend, she braces her hind legs and drives her shoulder and horns into the weakened rock behind her. The mountain answers with a deep crack.

Stone breaks loose in a rushing cascade, filling the passage behind her. Dust and icy fragments billow past her feathers before settling into a solid rubble wall.

The hunters' voices become muffled, then vanish beneath the final grinding collapse. No opening remains between the cave and the ledge.

Ahead, the hidden passage descends into blue darkness, carrying the clean scent of snow. Behind Nyxous, Pyros's belongings remain sealed safely beyond the fallen stone.
