Orange and Green reach the oasis edge where the grass thins to dust. Behind them, the new trade pact hangs in the air like a fragile wire. Ahead, the grey wasteland presses close, and the water-fed roots underfoot feel sick.

Orange the Colossus
The soil changes fast here.
Green stops hard, one hand braced against her ribs. Her gaze drops to the cracked earth, then flicks toward the cistern pipes half-buried in sand. The plants around her sag as if something is drinking them dry.

Green the Colossus
It is spreading. Not just into the ground, into the water too.
A distant clang rolls over the flats. Then another. Not wind, not rubble, metal moving with intent. At the same moment, one of the oasis watchmen on the ridge raises an arm and points outward.

Silas
Movement on the western spillway. Scrap rigs, maybe more than scrap.
Green looks back at Orange, pain and resolve tightening her posture. The threat is no longer only the blight under the sand. Something outside is coming, and it may reach the water first.

Stop the oasis from being poisoned
“Are the junkers' rigs what's causing the blight?”
NO, BUT (Unlikely, rolled 44)
Orange watches the rigs through his scope, noting the clean, rhythmic hum of their engines that contrasts sharply with the erratic, dying pulse of the blighted earth. The machines are scavengers, not the source of the rot, as they steer carefully around the blackened patches of soil.
“I examine the blighted soil for contaminants”
SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled +1)

Orange kneels at the edge of the blackened patch and rakes the soil with two thick fingers. The grit comes away slick, gray, and metallic, not dead earth at all, but ash-laced runoff crusted over with oily residue.

Orange the Colossus
This isn’t natural rot. Something has been mixed into the water.
He presses closer. Fine pale threads cling inside the mud, the same color as mineral scum, but packed in deliberate streaks that run downhill toward the oasis feed.

Green the Colossus
Those lines are leading straight to the inlet.
Green points past the spillway, her posture tightening as the pattern snaps into place. The blight is not spreading by chance, it is being carried.

Silas
Then somebody is putting it there on purpose. Look.
The watchman angles a hand toward the rigs, and their careful path suddenly makes sense, they are skirting marked ground and funneling toward the clean water channel beyond the poisoned edge.
The oasis is no longer just threatened by rot. Orange now has a trace, a direction, and an enemy who knows the land well enough to weaponize it.
