Smoke coils between the black pines. A noble carriage lies overturned in the mud, its doors shattered and its path choked by burning branches.
Silver reaches the edge of the clearing. Inside the wreck, the noble and two guards press against the far wall, alive but trapped.

The demon blocks the broken doors, its claw lifting toward the carriage. Firelight runs across its horns and ash-dark hide.

One guard fumbles for a sword beneath the wreckage. The other raises a shaking hand, warning him not to move.
The Demon
Choose quickly, Silver. Their promise broke. Yours need not.
The demon's claw descends toward the splintered carriage as sparks whirl through the dark.

The demon collapses beside the carriage, its threat extinguished. The fire still crackles, but no claw reaches the trapped passengers.
Silver moves to the wreck and tears away a splintered door, opening a path through the smoke.
The Noble
You saved us. Quickly, help the wounded guard out before the carriage shifts.
The noble crawls free into the mud, while the two guards begin dragging themselves after them. Behind them, the overturned carriage groans in the firelight.
