The Throne's Ancient Guardian Awakens

Black script crawls over the throne room floor, then sinks toward the dais. Beneath the stone, something vast stirs awake. Varek and the bound thralls go rigid, pulled tight by Dakern's will and the ancient pressure below.

Varek

Varek

That is no ordinary guardian. It is older than the throne.

The dais cracks with a deep groan. Ember sparks gutter out as cold dark rises in their place, coiling around Dakern's boots and climbing toward his grimoire. The throne answers, but so does the thing beneath it.

Varek

Varek

Master, the room is yours. But if you keep pulling, it pulls back harder.

Dakern's grimoire flares, heavy with every soul he has seized. The underworld's script twists against the older presence, and the chamber shudders as if two kings are strangling the same crown.

Varek

Varek

Choose, necromancer. Keep the throne, or cut the chain before it takes you with it.

The ancient presence surges one last time, a cold hand rising through the dais cracks toward Dakern's heart. Everything hangs there, balanced on his next command.

I keep the throne and kill whatever is standing in my path

Dakern does not yield. The black script on the floor tightens, and the cold hand at the dais stalls mid-reach as if caught in iron prayer.

Hold.

His grimoire snaps open with a hard flare. The pressure beneath the throne buckles, then breaks under his will, and the reaching shape is dragged flat into the crackling stone.

A pale, ancient figure surges up anyway, all ash and bone light, but it meets a wall of darkness and shatters into a storm of drifting shards.

Varek

Varek

It is done, master. The throne answers you now.

The room goes still again. Even the braziers seem to bow, their embers shrinking to thin, obedient points.

Dakern stands alone in the hush of Hades, script crawling up his hands, the grimoire heavy but steady. The silent court holds its breath around him, fully claimed.

It bends. By all the dead, you made it bend.

The bones around the dais settle into a rigid, obedient stillness.

Then let the throne remember whose will it answers.

Hah. Proper king now.

The great chamber falls quiet, waiting for command.

Dakern sat the throne of Hades as its master, and the hostile depth beneath it was broken at last. The grimoire still lingered within him, a living weight bound to his triumph, but it no longer ruled the room. Around him, the dead held fast in silence, and the underworld accepted its new lord.
