Still bruised and rib-bound, Silas enters the hospice council chamber unshackled. Brother Caldus accompanies him, while two gray-tabarded wardens remain at the doors.

Three councilors sit beneath blue prayer-bells: an elderly woman in layered white robes, a middle-aged man with a carved ashwood staff, and a broad-shouldered adult elf woman with silver-braided hair.

The wardens place Dame Olyra’s sealed proof upon the council table. Garran’s body, the surviving heirs, and the hospice guardians remain behind in the vault, while the heirs’ written accusation lies beside the seal.

Sir Silas Mori, the confession and evidence establish Garran’s guilt. They do not yet establish your right to kill him.

the ashwood councilor

You struck before the hospice council convened, before lawful judgment was recorded, and beneath guardians who had secured the accused.

the elf councilor

the elf councilor

The written accusation calls your act murder, claiming you used sacred authority to bypass every living law protecting this hospice.

Brother Caldus

Brother Caldus

I witnessed the confession, the evidence, and the execution. Ask him plainly, councilors. Was Garran’s death justice, or did Sir Silas commit murder?

✓ Quest Accepted

Secure the council’s judgment preserving Silas’s freedom

“I explain how death calls me not just to ease the suffering into the beyond, but to cast those who cause suffering inti the beyond aswell. I plead guilty to the crime they accuse me of and explain how ive been imprisoned before and how my god used an earthquake to free me.”

I plead guilty to the crime named in the accusation. Death calls me not only to ease the suffering into the beyond, but to cast those who cause suffering there as well.

Silas Mori

Silas Mori

Garran caused Dame Olyra's suffering and took her life. I judged that crime according to the command of the Reaping Angel, though I accept your custody and your laws.

Silas's confession settles beneath the blue bells. Brother Caldus remains beside him, while the wardens, two adult men with sturdy builds, close-cropped brown hair, weathered faces, and gray tabards hold their positions and the sealed proof glints on the council table.

Silas Mori

Silas Mori

I have been imprisoned before. I know the weight of bars, and I will not resist if you imprison me again. The Reaping Angel once sent an earthquake to free me and called me into his service.

At the word earthquake, dust sifts from the chamber’s oldest beam. The prayer-bells sway without wind, and the carved ashwood staff gives a faint, answering tremor against the floor.

the elderly councilor

You admit the act without evasion, Sir Silas. That weighs against concealment, but it does not transform a private execution into lawful judgment.

Brother Caldus

Brother Caldus

He has answered plainly. Let the council judge the killing, but do not mistake his submission for repentance. He believes his god required it.

“Of you are to imprison ne, i woukd like to request that thise who seek my service as a deciple of death can visit ne so i may continue to spare the dying from a difficult journey beyond.”

If you imprison me, I request that those who seek my service as a disciple of Death may visit me, so I can continue easing the dying beyond.

The request rests beneath the bells, practical rather than defiant. Dust still clings to the trembling beam, while the sealed evidence waits untouched before the council.

the elderly councilor

That request is granted. Hospice custody will not sever your sacred work, provided each visitor is recorded and every rite remains witnessed.

the ashwood councilor

Those seeking your discipleship may enter under supervision. You will guide the dying, not command this hospice or deliver another sentence within its walls.

the elf councilor

The permission shall be written into the order of custody. A prison may restrain your body, Sir Silas, but it need not silence mercy.

Brother Caldus

Then the hospice will make room for them. The dying may still receive your calm counsel, and I will ensure the bells bear witness.

The ashwood staff settles against the floor. A warden unrolls the custody order and adds the visitation clause, granting Silas a lawful path to continue serving the dying from confinement.

“Then you have given me all the freedom i require, and i accept your judgment as it stands.”

Then you have given me all the freedom I require, and I accept your judgment as it stands.

Silas’s acceptance settles through the council chamber without resistance. The blue prayer-bells quiet, and the written custody order lies open with its visitation clause.

the elderly councilor

So recorded. You accept custody, and the hospice recognizes the service you may still render within it.

the ashwood councilor

Your conviction remains your own, Sir Silas. Mortal law will not claim your conscience, only restrain your hand within these walls.

the elf councilor

The judgment stands: custody for the killing, permission for witnessed rites, and no further sentence delivered by your blade.

Brother Caldus

Then let the bells mark this honestly. You are confined, but not cut off from those who need a guide toward death.

One warden seals the order with blue wax. The council’s decision becomes law, while the path granted to Silas remains broad enough for mercy, prayer, and service.

“I bow to the council and prepare to enter hospice custody.”

Silas bows deeply to the three councilors, careful beneath the rib binding. The blue bells stir once above him, then settle into silence.

The two gray-tabarded wardens step forward, not with drawn weapons but with the measured formality of custodians receiving a sworn prisoner.

the elderly councilor

Rise, Sir Silas. Your custody begins now, under the order we have sealed and the service we have permitted.

Brother Caldus

Brother Caldus

I will bring you to the hospice quarters myself. Your visitors will be recorded, and no one seeking your guidance will be turned away.

One warden lifts the sealed order while the other opens the chamber doors. Beyond them, the hospice corridors glow with warded lamps and hanging blue bells.

the elf councilor

Go with dignity, Sir Silas. The law has closed your hand, but it has not closed the road before you.

Brother Caldus leads Silas from the council chamber toward custody. Behind them, the council returns to its records, and the hospice receives its newest confined servant.
