Adventure of Onyx Soldier 1

The service veins shudder as blue light spills through a grated seam overhead. Steam drifts low over pooled water while Onyx Soldier pushes into a narrowing junction, data drive secured.

A tether snaps taut. An armored operative drops from the hatch above and lands hard in Onyx's path, weapon up, visor cold and unreadable.

The weapon hums, not with a blast, but with a flat, disciplined buzz meant to make muscles betray their owner. The operative keeps the muzzle centered, feet set for a fast grab or a fast retreat.

Water laps at their boots. Behind the operative, the freighter groans and a distant bulkhead crack answers like a gunshot.

Onyx Soldier drops to one knee and plants both palms on the slick deck. White-blue energy ripples into the metal, racing under the operative’s boots.

The floor bucks under the surge. The operative jerks, weapon dipping as the charge climbs through the soles and up their stance.

Their visor snaps toward Onyx, then goes blank as they crumple sideways into the pooled water, tether slackening.

The humming weapon skitters away, still buzzing uselessly. Steam rolls over the fallen operative and hides the far end of the corridor.

Whisper crackles over comms, precise and calm, 'Move. That window closes fast.'

Ahead, the blue spill light flickers through the hatch above while the ship groans deeper around them.
