Water hisses through the open hatch behind Onyx Soldier, turning the service passage slick and loud. In the dark ahead, a woman peels free of the shadows, pistol lowered but ready.

Vesper
Easy. I am Vesper. The Handler sent me to make sure the drive leaves this ship.
She does not look at Onyx Soldier first. Her eyes track the bulkhead, then the ceiling, as if measuring angles, exits, and ambush points all at once.

Vesper
The passage is narrow. He is breathing hard. If he runs, I can still cut him off.

Onyx Soldier
Who are you really?

Vesper
The one keeping you alive long enough to be useful.
A distant clang rolls through the hull. Vesper lifts the pistol a few inches, not quite aiming at Onyx Soldier, but no longer pretending it is only a greeting.
“Disarm her then get out off the ship”
SUCCESS (Superb Hand-to-Hand, rolled +0)

Onyx Soldier snaps into her space, traps the pistol wrist, and twists. The weapon clatters into the water, gone under a slap of spray.
Vesper stumbles back a half-step, free hand rising too late. Her balance breaks as the passage tilts under the flood.

Onyx Soldier
Her grip is broken.
Onyx Soldier drives past her shoulder and takes the opening for the hatch. Cold water hits his boots, then his knees.

Vesper
Wait. The drive matters more than your pride.
He does not stop. Vesper reaches once, then pulls back as something heavy shudders deeper in the ship.

Vesper
Move, then. The next deck is already waking up.
“Run as fast as I can useing acrobatics to help me move much faster”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +0)

Onyx Soldier bursts into the service passage, boots striking grating, then slick metal, then the ladder rung ahead. The flood hammers at his calves, but his movement never breaks.
He cuts sideways on the wall, vaults a jutting pipe, and lands running as water splashes high behind him.
Vesper catches the motion and turns, but he is already past her line, driving toward the next bulkhead.

Vesper
If you stop for one second, we both lose this ship.
A deeper thud rolls through the passage. Dust shakes loose from a seam overhead, and the open hatch groans under the surge.
Onyx Soldier clears the flooded stretch in a blur, reaches the far side, and puts distance between himself and the hatch.

Vesper
Turn left at the junction, or the next deck catches you in the open.
“I turn left at the junction and I do a flip to the next deck”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +0)

Onyx Soldier hits the junction and snaps left, the corridor narrowing into a ladderwell cut through steel and spray.
He plants a hand on the rail, swings his weight through the turn, and launches upward into the opening above.
Boots clear the lip, then the rest of him follows in one clean, controlled flip.
He lands on the next deck in a crouch, water exploding off his gear in a glittering fan.

Vesper
You made it up. Keep moving, that deck is listening.
Behind him, the passage shudders again, and a panel of loose grating clatters somewhere below.
Vesper points down the new corridor, her gaze already tracking the path ahead, waiting for his choice.
“Run down the new corridor at superhuman speed”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +2)

Onyx Soldier breaks into the corridor, his speed turning the narrow passage into a blur of steel ribs and wet light. Spray peels off his boots and vanishes behind him.
He clears a hanging cable without slowing, then slips past a buckled bulkhead where the deck has started to bow. The ship groans under his feet, but his line stays true.
A torn maintenance placard flashes by in his wake, followed by a smear of fresh water across the floor, as if the passage itself has been opened and rinsed by impact.

Vesper
That speed is going to pull attention. Left at the split, then down.
Her voice cuts after him from the ladderwell, tighter now, less warning than calculation.
Ahead, the corridor ends at a junction washed in emergency red. One door stands half ajar, and thin light leaks from the seam.

Vesper
If you want the drive off this ship, take the lit door now.
“I go through the lit door doing a dive roll jumping to my feet with my gun out scanning the area”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +0)

Onyx Soldier drops through the lit doorway in a tight dive, boots tucked, shoulder leading. He rolls hard across the wet deck and comes up in one clean motion, weapon already clearing the room.
The chamber beyond is a narrow maintenance bay, half drowned and glowing with red emergency strips. A wall console flickers beside stacked crates, and fresh scuffs mark a hurried exit through the far bulkhead.

Onyx Soldier
The track is fresher than the rest.
His muzzle sweeps left, then right, and catches a small insulated case lashed under the console. The latch is open. Empty.

Vesper
You see it too. Somebody passed through here first, fast.
Vesper steps into the doorway behind him, keeping to cover, her eyes fixed on the case and the scuffed trail. The ship lurches again, and loose water slaps against the bay floor.

Vesper
If the drive was here, they moved it. Which way do you want to cut?
“Use my photographic memory to remember the fastest way off of the ship and I'll use my contact list and communication device to call on an old friend for help”
SUCCESS (Fair Reasoning, rolled +1)

The scuffs match a straight run to the starboard spine, then a ladder climb aft. Fastest path.
Onyx Soldier keys his device, the small screen strobing under the red wash as he brings up a secure contact he has not used in years.

Whisper
Still alive, then. That is either good luck or bad tradecraft.
A wet thud shakes the bay. Vesper shifts in the doorway, eyes cutting to the far bulkhead, then back to him.

Whisper
Give me ten seconds and tell me if you want extraction, diversion, or both.
The route settles in his memory with cold clarity, exit hatch, service spine, then the external maintenance gantry above the waterline. He has the way out now, clean and immediate.
Vesper waits, tense and ready, as the ship groans around them and the open channel hums for an answer.
“We need extraction now!”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +1)
