The kitchen lights stutter again, and Icecream Dave’s shape goes wrong. His shoulders hitch upward, his skin pales to a waxy sheen, and that freezer-cold air rolls off him in a sharp blast.

Unknown Woman

Unknown Woman

No... he’s not just a guy.

The receipt slips from her fingers. It lands on the oil-slick floor between Bob and the threshold, right where the hallway light can still catch it.

Icecream Dave

Icecream Dave

You should have stayed quiet.

His mouth splits into a grin that does not reach his eyes. The jagged ice pick in his hand glints, then his arm jerks with a wet, unnatural snap, like something inside him is shifting under the skin.

The temperature drops fast.

The Unknown Woman backs toward the door, horrified, while Bob is left squarely in the kill zone. Dave finishes changing, not into a monster from nowhere, but into the thing he has been hiding all along.

Escape the house

“*And then... Raccoons for some reason*”

FAILURE (Great Reasoning, rolled -3)

Bob’s desperate attempt to make sense of the impossible scene produces no useful answer. Instead, a cabinet door bursts open, and three raccoons tumble into the kitchen, chittering furiously.

The raccoons scatter across the oil-slick floor, overturning a dish rack and sending dirty plates clattering between Bob and the doorway. One seizes the damp receipt in its teeth.

Unknown Woman

Unknown Woman

Why are there raccoons in your kitchen?

Dave’s altered face, belonging to a middle-aged man with a gaunt build, hollow cheeks, lank black hair, and a torn gray hoodie, twists toward the animals. The raccoon with the receipt retreats beneath a chair, while the other two bare their teeth at his advancing boots.

Icecream Dave

Icecream Dave

Get out of my way, vermin.

His threat makes the raccoons surge together instead of flee. They rush his ankles, forcing Dave to halt, while the stolen receipt disappears beneath the chair with them.

Unknown Woman

Unknown Woman

Bob, move. Whatever you were trying, you just bought us one chance.

“*And then... Raccoons for some reason*”

The raccoons hold their ground beneath the chair, chittering and clutching the damp receipt between them. Dave’s advancing boots stop just short of the overturned dish rack.

Unknown Woman

Unknown Woman

You brought me here to corner him, and now three raccoons have stolen your evidence. That is almost too perfect.

Dave’s altered features tighten. He looks from the chair to the woman, then toward Bob, as if searching for one ally who still believes his story.

Icecream Dave

Icecream Dave

Move, you filthy little thieves. That receipt is mine.

The raccoons answer with a furious chorus and retreat farther beneath the chair. One paws the receipt backward while another keeps its bright eyes fixed on Dave.

Unknown Woman

Unknown Woman

No. You do not get to threaten animals and call yourself in control. Bob, keep him talking while I get that receipt.

“**Psychically, the Raccoons know that Bob? Bob is fren!**”

FAILURE (Superb Willpower, rolled +1)

“**Psychically, the Raccoons know that Bob? Bob is fren!**”

FAILURE (Superb Willpower, rolled +1)

Bob fixes his attention on the raccoons and reaches for them without words, pushing one clear thought through the panic: friend, not threat. The effort finds their minds, but only as a burst of pressure and noise.

The raccoons recoil together. One drops the receipt, another snaps at the nearest paw, and their brief unity breaks into frantic chittering beneath the chair.

Unknown Woman

Bob, whatever you just did, they heard something. They do not know whether it was a warning or a promise.

Dave steps toward the chair, but the smallest raccoon plants itself between him and the receipt. It stares at Bob instead, trembling, as though his failed message left one fragile thread intact.

Icecream Dave

Icecream Dave

Do not encourage them, Bob. Animals remember fear much better than kindness.

The receipt lies exposed beside the chair leg. The smallest raccoon nudges it once toward Bob, then retreats, offering no friendship, but leaving him a way to prove he means no harm.
