How I Rebuilt A Machine Empire As A Small Ball.

Rain needles through the shattered roof of Sector Alpha-Zero Main Foundry. ORB-01 hovers above a flooded catwalk, blue ring dim and steady, facing the vine-choked Sub-Sector Fabricator terminal below.

The terminal’s copper veins gleam through torn casing. Old machine-script flickers under moss, half-buried in corrosion and roots.

From the dark under an assembly arm, iron clanging on steel echoes twice, then a third time. Shapes move in the rain, low and hunched, carrying crude crowbars and scavenged scrap armor.

They fan out fast, greed pulling them toward the exposed wiring. One points at the terminal, then at ORB-01, as if measuring which prize is easier to break.

ORB-01’s red eye blooms to life for a scan. The ring brightens white for a breath, then returns to blue as the terminal’s exposed links and the scavengers’ improvised weapons resolve in sharp detail.

ORB-01 answers with a flash of hard blue-white light. The particle lance hisses through rain, and the leader jerks backward as the shot tears the crowbar from his grip and hurls him into the flooded grating.

The pack flinches apart. One drops their blade with a splash. Another stumbles into the assembly arm, staring at the smoking hole in the leader’s scrap armor.

ORB-01 keeps the lance trained forward. The red eye burns bright, reflecting in the puddles as the scavengers lose their line and start backing away from the terminal.

Scrap pieces clatter down the catwalk as they retreat under the dark armature, boots slipping on water and rust.

The terminal remains intact, its copper veins still exposed but untouched, while rain ticks against the vine-wrapped casing.
