An Interruption at the Lodge

The lobby’s hush breaks under a quick tapping from the hallway. Mr. Henderson appears with a ledger tucked tight under one arm, his breath still uneven from the storm outside.

Henderson

Henderson

Sorry to interrupt. The snow’s scrambled my room list, and I need both of you to help me sort one assignment before someone freezes waiting.

He stops between Diana and Evan, polite but clearly expecting cooperation. The firelight steadies on his tired face, and the awkward air around them shifts into something more public, more manageable.

Evan

Evan

Of course. Tell us what’s wrong.

Evan straightens, the old tension in his shoulders easing just enough to let him sound useful instead of exposed. Diana has a clear opening to answer, but the room is waiting on her silence or her words.

I’ve got one couple booked twice, one room empty, and one guest insisting she was promised a key that never made it onto my ledger. If you two can help me match names to keys, I’d appreciate it.
