A Frozen Reunion in the Storm

The ski lodge door shudders open on a blast of whiteout wind. Diana Noh steps in from the storm, snow dusting her jeans, the lobby warm and dim ahead.

A fireplace crackles. A few lanterns glow under the beams. Near the counter, a man in a wet navy coat looks up from the register and freezes.

Diana Noh... no, it cannot be. Not here.

He turns fully, and the years fall away in one stunned, careful breath. Evan’s expression shifts from disbelief to recognition, like he is trying to solve her face before it disappears again.

Evan

Evan

Diana?

The storm hammers the windows. Evan takes one step closer, then stops himself, hands half-raised as if afraid the moment will break if he touches it.

Evan

Evan

Is that really you... or am I seeing things?

Diana’s phone buzzes once in her pocket, muffled by the coat and the wind’s last howl. Evan waits, tense and hopeful, for her answer.

A Frozen Reunion in the Storm

Diana reaches the lodge entrance and finds Evan there, lit by the fire and the gray spill of snow from outside.

He turns so fast his shoulder bumps the doorframe, eyes fixed on her like he is checking a reflection for cracks.

Evan

Evan

Diana? You are really here.

His breath hangs in the cold air at the threshold.

Evan

Evan

I came because I had to know if it was actually you, or if I was losing my mind.

His hand tightens on a damp glove, then lowers, as if the answer has already shaken something loose in him.

Evan

Evan

I am here for you. But I need to tell you why, and I need to know if you will hear me out.
