The Witch Leaves Blackmere

The postern stands open beneath Blackmere’s western tower. Surrendered defenders line the passage and part silently as Eudora walks through with her Witch’s Wand in hand, leaving Harrow’s death behind.

Clear the road. Let her pass unchallenged. No blade is raised, and no one follows.

The gate captain, a middle-aged human man with a sturdy build, close-cropped iron-gray hair, and a weathered face beneath a red-plumed iron helm, wearing battered armor remains at the threshold, directing royal riders toward neighboring halls. Each departing horse carries the same warning farther across Midgard: Eudora has returned.

Beyond the bridge, distant watchfires answer one another across the countryside. In manor and hill-fort, doors are barred, war councils summoned, and old magical vaults sealed.

By the time Eudora reaches the outer road, frightened households are naming her return a threat to every source of magic they possess. Blackmere’s bells fade behind her.

Ride east, west, and south. Tell every lord the same thing: do not mistake her departure for mercy.

The road lies open beneath the darkening sky. No companion leaves Blackmere beside Eudora, yet a fresh watchfire kindles on the far hills, marking the spread of her name.
