Max and Gorvek descend the tower's dust-choked stairwell, boots grinding over ancient grit. Above them, the armed pursuers remain behind on the cleared road, while the grimoire circles in a slow orange orbit.
The half-orc keeps one broad hand against the wall and the broken sword-hilt in the other. From beneath the stones comes a faint metallic pulse, steady as a distant heartbeat.

Gorvek
There. It answers the hilt. We are close.
The stairwell bends below the tower's foundations and ends at a sealed landing. Blackened masonry fills the passage, its surface veined with dull silver lines that brighten whenever Gorvek's hilt trembles.

The stones are cold, but something beyond them presses against my fire.

Gorvek
My father's sword lies behind this seal. Do not mistake its silence for weakness.
The orange flames around Max's fists gutter toward the wall, then flare sharply as an unseen blade answers from within. Dust lifts from the landing, revealing a narrow crack across the masonry.

I can use magic, but I do not fully understand it. Whatever happens, I guarantee your safety. Remind me your name. You are not royalty, are you, or part of some ancient bloodline?
Max speaks quietly, and the promise settles into the sealed landing. His grimoire continues its orbit, feeding raw fire into his fists while innate magic steadies the heat without a conductor.

Gorvek
Gorvek. I told you that above. And no, I am not royalty. My blood is old, perhaps, but old blood is not the same as noble blood.
Gorvek lowers the broken hilt slightly. The silver veins in the masonry brighten, and the ancient magic beyond the seal answers with a deep metallic pulse.

Gorvek
My father carried this sword, and his father before him. That is inheritance, not a crown. If danger comes through, I will trust your promise, but I will fight beside you.
The crack widens with a grinding sigh. Cold air spills through, carrying the scent of iron and something older, while Max's fire bends toward the hidden blade.
Director's notewhole tale
The seal opens fully; however, since Gorvek isn't a magic user,r he lacks the full sensory capabilities that I have. I feel the sword's ancient magic swarm around me its juding me. I feel some form of rejection as a slight jolt before the magic goes to Gorvek; the magic calms and accepts Gorvek.

The crack splits from floor to lintel. Ancient silver light floods the landing as the sealed masonry withdraws, revealing a dark chamber beyond and a sword suspended above a stone dais.
The sword's magic pours over Max in a silent, ancient tide. It judges him through the fire, and a sharp jolt of rejection snaps through his body before the power abruptly turns away.
The current streams toward Gorvek instead. It gathers around the half-orc's broken hilt and shoulders, then settles into a calm silver radiance that makes the chamber's metallic pulse slow.

Gorvek
It remembers me. After all these years, it still remembers me.
Gorvek steps across the threshold, his broad frame outlined by the sword's glow. The broken hilt rises in his hand, drawn toward the waiting weapon as if pulled by an invisible bond.

Gorvek
Stay close, but do not force it. Whatever rejected you was not an insult. It was a warning meant to keep us alive.
The sword lowers toward Gorvek, shedding no heat, only a pressure that fills the chamber. Behind them, the opened seal groans, but the passage remains clear.
“Looks like you got what you wanted. Guess my job here is done. You don't seem all that knowledgeable with magic so I'll leave you to it. I said, with a wave of my wand, heading to the exit of the watchtower”

Looks like you got what you wanted. My job here is done. You do not seem knowledgeable with magic, so I will leave you to it. Remember, I promised your safety.
Max gives Gorvek a brief wave of his wand and turns away. The ancient sword's presence still clings to his senses, but the chamber no longer holds him; he strides through the open seal toward the tower stairs.

Gorvek
You have done more than enough, Max. I will not forget that you stood between me and those pursuers.
Behind Gorvek, the suspended sword settles into his waiting hilt with a deep metallic click. Silver radiance folds inward, leaving the half-orc steady beneath the weapon's calm acceptance.

Gorvek
If the road carries you near again, seek me. I may yet learn what this inheritance demands, even without the knowledge you carry.
Max reaches the upper stairwell and passes beneath the broken archway, emerging from the chamber into the watchtower's dusty lower passage. Daylight spills down from the entrance ahead.
