Adventure of Pistol 1

The stairway drops into a round chamber carved with old grooves, like a seal half-scrubbed away. Wet stone glistens. Pistol’s shadow stretches wrong across the floor, tugged toward the center as if something beneath the court knows she is here.

Stabby McStabbson pads to the edge of the chamber and freezes. A faint purple pulse answers from a cracked plinth ahead, each beat making the carved grooves flare dimly, as if they are drinking in Pistol’s presence.

Pistol steps close enough to see it, a ward-stone wrapped in a broken ring of iron. Runes along the rim glow when her shadow touches them, and the chamber shivers in response. The beacon is not a rumor. It is a door, a lure, and a signal.

Above them, the distant voices of Solan and Delfarius fade into nothing. Below, the ward gives one sharper pulse, as if calling harder now that Pistol stands before it.

Pistol now sees the heart of the trap, her own shadow is the key that wakes it, and whoever built this place is using her to light the way.
