Several days pass beneath the broad-leaved shelter. Krieosk tends Lyra’s bruises, rations their supplies, and keeps watch while her strength gradually returns.
By the fourth morning, Lyra can walk and help maintain the hidden camp. She gathers dry branches and checks the shelter while Krieosk carries the canteen toward the river.

At the river, Krieosk fills the purifier beneath hanging vines. Movement threads between distant trunks: a pirate patrol in mismatched armor advances along the bank.
Three figures escort a restrained prisoner whose clothing and build are obscured by mud, shadow, and a hood. None has noticed the shelter, but their route bends toward it.
The patrol pauses beyond the reeds. One pirate scans the canopy while another checks the prisoner’s restraints, and the prisoner turns slightly toward the concealed camp.
