Adventure of Ki Akio 1

The fire escape drops into a wide industrial lane, all wet concrete, gantries, and drone hum. A black sedan sits crosswise at the exit. Three armored agents step out, weapons up, and the middle one levels a case with a red laser.

Marek freezes with the case clutched tight, shoulders hard. Juno shifts left, trying to get a line on the sedan doors while keeping low.

Above them, transport drones drift closer, their sensor pods sweeping the lane. The lead agent tilts his muzzle toward Ki Akio, patient but ready.

Marek edges the case back toward Ki Akio, looking for a split second to move. The sedan idles in the choke point, blocking clean escape and forcing the truth into the open.

Ki Akio snaps the hand cannon up and fires first. The lead agent jerks back as the round cracks into his chest plate, and Ki Akio is already moving, boots skimming wet concrete toward the sedan.

The black sedan shudders under the impact as the agents break formation. Agent Two ducks hard behind the door, and Agent Three swings wide to cover the flank.

Marek flinches, then shoves the beacon case toward Ki Akio as if the lane itself is burning. Juno lunges from cover, using the gunfire as cover to cut closer to the car.

The taunt lands clean. The lead agent staggers upright, weapon still in hand, while Ki Akio closes the distance with the sword coming high.

Muzzle flashes flare under the gantry, but Ki Akio is inside their line now, forcing the fight into the cramped space by the sedan.

The beacon case swings free from Marek’s grip and slaps against Ki Akio’s side as the blockade starts to buckle.

Ki Akio drives the vibro sword in a clean, vicious arc. The lead agent's rifle arm drops out of line as steel and vibration tear through his guard, and the man folds back into the sedan with no room left to recover.

The beacon case jolts hard against Ki Akio's hip as the hit lands, its hard edge biting through his side. The impact is worth it, the lane opens for a second, and the agents' formation breaks under the shock.

Agent Two fires blind through the door gap, sparks snapping off the sedan frame. Agent Three stumbles a half step wide, losing his clean angle as Juno cuts past the opening.

Ki Akio is inside the breach, sword still humming, with the blockade buckling behind him and the black case clamped in the fight.

Ki Akio drives forward again, vibro sword humming low as he slips past the sedan door and splits the agents’ attention. Agent Two jerks back from the gap, too late to reset his aim.

Steel flashes at the edge of the open lane. Ki Akio’s second cut forces Agent Three to abandon the flank and twist away, breaking his line with the car.

The shout turns the blockade into panic. Marek ducks low with the beacon case hugged tight, and Juno keeps moving, cutting toward the darker stretch of the lane.

Ki Akio’s gyro joints catch his overcommitment and save him from the return fire, but the effort bites hard into his side where the case struck him. A thin line of blood warms under his shirt.

The wounded lead agent slumps harder against the sedan, and the surviving two recoil instead of advancing, giving the group a live exit if Ki Akio keeps the pressure on.

Ki Akio snaps the hand cannon up at point blank range and fires. The shot cracks through the lane, and the lead agent’s head whips sideways as he collapses against the sedan, finally going limp.

The remaining two agents flinch hard, their formation collapsing for good. One backpedals into the open door while the other jerks his rifle toward the wrong target, buying the lane for a heartbeat.

Marek lunges through the gap with the beacon case hugged tight, using the broken sedan as cover. Juno cuts across the lane edge, eyes locked on the opening ahead.

Blood still stains Ki Akio’s side, but the muzzle line is theirs now. The breached blockade opens wide enough for all three to push through if they commit.

Ki Akio snaps the hand cannon down and tags the sedan’s front tire. Rubber bursts with a sharp pop, and the wheel folds under the rim, dragging the nose of the car sideways.

The buckled sedan shudders, then settles into a useless lean, trapping its own door against the lane wall.

Marek jerks the beacon case higher and keeps running, while the decoy scrap flashes once in his other hand as he clears the wreck.

Behind them, the broken blockade no longer holds a clean line. The agents lose their cover, and the lane opens into a hard, narrow escape route.

Ki Akio keeps the pressure on and snaps three shots in tight succession. The first hits the lead agent high, the second drives him off the sedan’s flank, and the third forces the whole line to jerk sideways.

The agents break their lane-facing stance and scramble for fresh cover, one slipping against the canted car while another drags the wounded leader clear.

Marek darts past with the beacon case tucked tight, the decoy scrap flashing in his other hand as he angles for the open lane.

Juno cuts across the opening low and fast, using the wreck as a shield while the agents lose their clean line of fire.

Ki Akio vaults the wreck in one clean motion, gyro joints biting for balance as his blade comes up before Agent Three can fully turn.

The vibro sword kisses the agent’s throat line, stopping him cold against the sedan’s battered roofline.

Agent Three staggers back with both hands raised, rifle dropping to the pavement as the other agents flinch at the sudden breach.

The lane ahead is clear for a hard push, but the shaken agent line is still armed and closing fast behind them.

Ki Akio follows through fast, a clipped slash at the side of Agent Three's head. The ear drops away with a sharp cry, and the man folds under his own shock.

Ki Akio strips the rifle free, then yanks at the agent's armor plates and mag-clips. Plastic seals snap. The man is left scrambling, half-dressed and bleeding onto the asphalt.

Behind him, one of the remaining agents hesitates, glancing back for half a second, and that single glance costs him the lane.

Juno lunges past the sedan's canted flank, eyes hard on the opening. Marek clutches the beacon case tight, the decoy scrap flashing in his other hand as he keeps moving.

Sirens bloom farther down the block, then cut off suddenly. The stripped agent stares after his gear, and the lane ahead splits between escape and pursuit.

Ki Akio leaves Industrial service lane behind and arrives at the industrial lane exit.

The lane mouth opens into a harsher strip of light, wet concrete, trash steam, and the low thrum of traffic beyond the blocks. Ki Akio clears the exit with the others and spots the second sedan waiting crooked at the curb, engine alive, doors unlocked.

Marek shoves the beacon case down into the back seat first, then flicks the decoy scrap after it like a bad joke made useful. Juno is already at the other door, scanning the street while the first sedan blocks the lane behind them.

He slips past the open door as muzzle flash pops from the lane behind, too late to matter. The case lands on the seat, and the door swings shut on it with a solid, expensive click.

Ki Akio gets inside cleanly, and as the sedan lurches forward he catches one useful thing in the mirror, a reflected tag on the case latch, a corporate service seal stamped over his own neural-map serial.

Ki Akio reaches into the agent kit and tears out a compact signal damper, then rigs it into the sedan’s power rail. The display in his cyber eye jitters, and the corporate seal on the latch goes dim.

A thin blackout sheen crawls over the windows, swallowing the reflected tag on the case latch. The sedan hums harder for a second, then settles into a sealed, quieter pulse.

Juno glances back from the driver seat, then spots the cost, a warning strip on the borrowed gear flickers red and spits smoke onto Ki Akio’s sleeve.

Outside, the lane blurs past in wet neon. Inside the deadened bubble, the beacon case stays mute, hidden from the airwaves but locked in by a hot, burned-out module.
