The chamber settles into pale stillness. Silver ash lies flat around Artania’s raised shield, while Al watches beside the dark, silent vessel and Keeper Maelin remains at the threshold.

Seris stands beside Lord Lord Vael, her restored outline steady but unfamiliar. The vessel bears a sealed amber seam, and her name shines whole across its lid.

Lord Vael

Seris. I remember your name, but I will not pretend that memory makes me know the woman standing before me.

Seris

Seris

Good. Then see me as I am, Vael, not as the echo the voice shaped from your grief.

Lord Vael lowers his signet hand. For the first time since the altar, he faces Seris without reaching toward her, and the distance between them remains honest.

The division is ended, but restoration is not possession. Let Seris choose what survives between you.

I remember the pears, the gloves, and the love you carried. I do not yet know what I will do with them.

“I wait for but a heartbeat and ask, Lord Vael, Lady Seris? If you both know of the love you have for each other, what more must there be? I blush slightly at my own words slightly embarrassed. For what I know of it is only paternal, or through books.”

For a heartbeat, the chamber remains still. Artania’s cheeks warm as he gathers the courage to ask, his wounded hand held carefully near his side.

Lord Vael, Lady Seris? If you both know of the love you have for each other, what more must there be?

The question settles gently among the silver ash. Al’s ears tilt toward the speakers, while the sealed vessel gives no answer and no threat.

Lord Vael

Love is not only what I remember, Art. It is knowing who Seris is now, listening when her truth differs from mine, and accepting that she may choose a life without me.

And it is more than being cherished as someone remembered. I must be free to refuse, to change, and to discover whether what remains between us is truly ours.

Vael bows his head, receiving her words without defense. The distance between them remains, but it no longer feels like a wound being hidden.

Seris

You have asked wisely, Artania. Love requires truth, freedom, and patience. The rest cannot be recovered from memory. It must be made anew.

“Alright, are you two staying together then? Because it seems to me a waste to part after all the work you two went through. But it’s probably none of my business. I’ll shut up now. I whistle for Al and move away so they can have a private conversation.”

Are you two staying together? After everything you endured, it seems a waste to part. Though it is probably none of my business. I will be quiet now.

Artania whistles for Al and moves away across the silver ash, keeping his wounded hand close. The whistle echoes softly, reopening the cut across his palm.

Lord Vael

I want to stay beside her, but I will not ask Seris to return to the life I remember. If she permits it, I will remain and learn her anew.

I am not ready to promise forever. But I do not want to part tonight, Vael. We can walk together, and discover what remains without forcing it.

Al crosses to Artania, then glances back toward the pair. Lord Vael and Seris stand facing one another, no longer separated by grief or the vessel.

Then together for now, honestly and freely. That is enough for this night.

Seris

Together for now. And if our path divides later, we will meet that truth when it comes.
