Seven days after the witness chamber, Phandelver hums beyond a quiet tavern corner. Teren leans over the table, carefully unfolding a hand-drawn map.

Teren
I found this route in the testimony I carried. Not remembered clearly, at first. Now I can see it.
His finger follows a branching line from the preserved chamber toward Vael Turog, passing beneath marks neither House Domini nor House Xar would claim.

Teren
This landmark was already there when the houses arrived. I never learned who built it, but I saw its sign below the chamber.

Bren
Let him finish.

Teren
For seventy-five years, I kept the route sealed inside myself. I will not bury it again.

“" teren indulge me a moment." I say plainly. " I have seen the ritual done for reiteration. The person goes into the chamber and comes out. Same person memories are either cleaned or some removed. How are you and older human? "I pause " “So if reiteration does not create another person, and does not move the person into another body, explain exactly what happened to you and Kynes" I ask”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled -2)

Sil'Thalis
Teren, indulge me a moment. I have seen reiteration done. A person enters the chamber and emerges in the same body, with memories cleansed or removed. How are you older? If it creates no new person and moves no one into another body, explain exactly what happened to you and Kynes.
The question settles over the table. Teren withdraws his hand from the map, while Bren turns fully toward him. The tavern's muted clatter continues beyond the partition.

Teren
You are right to reject the easy answer. I did not become Kynes. My body remained mine, held in amber while the ritual stripped away selected memories and slowed my aging.

Teren
Kynes left a witness-pattern in the chamber. The reiteration drew that pattern across my mind as an instruction, then tried to make instruction into identity. It failed. I remained Teren, but whole stretches of my life were covered by his sequence.

Bren
And Kynes was not reborn inside him. His memories were a record, his choices a pattern, and the vault confused preservation with inheritance. Teren carried the imprint because someone designed the ritual to make a successor without asking one.

Teren
That is what happened to Kynes. He became the template the vault refused to let die. That is what happened to me. I became the body it kept available for the template.
The testimony in Sil'Thalis's marked hand aches sharply. A thin line of ink creeps across the map's unfamiliar landmark, darkening its sign, while Teren watches it with guarded recognition.

Teren
The mark is answering the explanation. I do not know whether it calls me, or only recognizes what was done to me. But now you know the difference.
“" you are the lightest dark elf I've ever seen." I chuckle”
SUCCESS (Fair Social interaction (Willpower), rolled +0)

Sil'Thalis
You are the lightest dark elf I have ever seen.
Sil'Thalis chuckles softly. The joke lands, though the marked line on the map trembles beneath his hand.

Teren
A rare distinction. Seventy-five years in amber will do strange things to a complexion.

Bren
That is the first time I have heard anyone tease him since he came back.

Teren
I had forgotten what it was like to be addressed as a man instead of a vessel.
His guarded posture eases. In answering the jest, he has accepted the difference between being remembered and being claimed, but the map's dark line stains his fingertips with cold ink.

Teren
Keep doing that, if you can. It reminds me that I am here, and not waiting in that chamber for someone else's purpose.

Bren
Then let the landmark wait a while. We can speak of what it means without letting it decide for you.
