The War Boss

In the ogre mountain hall, the bone effigy answers the chant. Frost crawls over its tusk, then weeps black liquid into the carved ribs.

The War Boss trembles, but he does not stop. He reaches closer, as if the thing can still tell him what his daughter cost.

Zuhh

Zuhh

The black bleed is not empty magic. It is tied to Zuhh.

The cold glow steadies. A low white drift spreads between the ogres and Zuhh, thin as breath, sharp as a warning.

The War Boss

The War Boss

First one... if this stain knows you, then it knows the price. Tell me what it takes from us.

The effigy cracks again, and the black liquid threads toward Zuhh like a seeking vein. The answer is not in the ogre hands alone. It is in the power source feeding them.

Zuhh stands at the center of that pull, dominant still, with the chance to claim the secret, seize the source, or break it before it deepens the clans’ hold on darkness.

Zuhh gathers the curse at the edge of his will and twists. The white drift surges in answer, but it bends wrong, snagging on the black thread instead of unmaking it.

The effigy shudders on the dais. A hairline crack races down its spine, and the bleeding black liquid turns bright at the rim, as if the spell has been startled awake.

The War Boss

The War Boss

No... hold it. Do not let it split.

The low white drift flashes, then thins. For one sharp heartbeat, the hall shows a pale shape inside the curse, a price hidden under layers of bone and hunger.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Something is sealed in there. Something taken, not given.

Then the binding catches. The glow gutters back into the effigy, and the black bleed seals itself deeper into the crack instead of leaving it.

The War Boss

The War Boss

I saw it. But only a sliver. If that thing breaks now, the truth dies with it.

The War Boss

Zuhh presses black electricity into the effigy’s cracked spine. The bone lattice answers with a sharp, blue-white tremor, and for one clean instant the hidden weave shows through it.

The lattice does not break. It snaps open like a lid, spilling a thin wash of pale force across the dais, and the frost-cracked bone shivers in the surge.

The War Boss

The War Boss

There. I see it. The price is carved into the binding, a soul-mark taken out and sewn back wrong.

A sting jumps back through Zuhh’s claw, a hard recoil that leaves his talon smoking at the tip. The hall smells of burnt dust and old marrow.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Not ash. Not loss. A living claim, held in the bone so the secret cannot be spoken clean.

The pale weave collapses inward, but not before a clear image flashes in it, a hollow place where something once belonged.

The War Boss

The War Boss

She was marked, then taken through that mark. That is the price.

Zuhh lowers into a kneel beside the dais, his big frame folding with deliberate control. Red light gathers in the air before his claws and hardens into a ceremonial bowl, broad-rimmed and filled to the lip with dark blood.

He sets the bowl into the War Boss’s reach, level with the ogre’s kneeling stance, as if returning a burden to its rightful owner. The scarlet surface quivers once, then goes still.

The War Boss

The War Boss

A proper offering. You remember our rites better than I do.

The War Boss takes the bowl with both hands and bows his head over it. His shoulders sag, not from weakness, but from the weight of recognition.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Blood given openly means the debt is named, not hidden. He is speaking to the old law, not just to me.

The War Boss

The War Boss

If her mark paid the price, then the clan paid twice. Once in blood, once in silence.

He lifts his gaze toward Zuhh, the bowl steady between them, and his voice drops into something rougher than grief.

Zuhh draws the curse inward and turns it inside out with a low pulse of black arcana. The ragged white drift snaps, hisses, and pours away from the cracked bone like ash in wind.

The hollow in the relic fills with a dark sheen instead, clean and still. For a heartbeat, a thread of buried bloodstone light rises from the cavity, then settles into a new, quiet shape.

The War Boss flinches as the pressure breaks, but he does not look away. The bowl trembles in his hands, not from fear now, but from the force of what has finally stopped resisting.

The War Boss

The War Boss

It is unbound. The old stain is gone from the shell, and the mark can be seen without the lie wrapped around it.

The bone effigy stays intact, though stripped bare of its hostile haze. What remains is only the mark and the old workmanship, exposed and unmistakable.

The War Boss

The War Boss

The debt was paid with a soul-mark laid on my daughter. The clan fed the rite, but the taking was hers.

He lowers the bowl a fraction, staring into the opened relic as if waiting for it to argue. It does not. The silence presses for Zuhh’s next command.

Zuhh lets the silence stand a moment longer, and the War Boss feels it. The ogre lowers his head without being told, the bowl steadying in his grip as if the air itself weighs his shoulders down.

Zuhh

Zuhh

The debt is not hunger. It is shame. Remember that when you speak of your daughter.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Shame... yes. That is the blade that still cuts.

The War Boss draws one rough breath and nods once, hard. The red bowl dips toward Zuhh’s knee, a formal offer kept in a kneeling hand.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Then hear me straight, first dragon. I did not name her loss cleanly before, because I did not know if I deserved the truth.

His eyes stay on the exposed mark, but his voice steadies. The old fear is still there, only now it serves the confession instead of hiding it.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Tell me what you require of me, and I will speak it before my clan without flinching.

Zuhh holds the line between them, immense and still. The relic remains open, the truth quiet in its hollow, while the ogre waits for the next command.

Zuhh does not move to fill the silence. He simply holds it, vast and exact, and the whole chamber seems to wait on his breathing.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Then I speak it as I should have before. My clan took power with blood, and my daughter was paid into that bargain.

The War Boss

The War Boss

I did not know the full price until the mark was laid bare. I know it now.

The ogre lifts the bowl a little higher, not as tribute now, but as witness. His shoulders tremble once, then set.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Name the debt in front of them, first dragon, and I will carry the shame with my own mouth.

The relic stays open and dark, its secret spent. The red bowl glows against the stone as if it has been waiting for this exact sentence.

The War Boss

The War Boss

If you will hear it, I can call the clan now.

Zuhh lets the silence break on his terms, and the old insult in the chamber finally takes shape.

Zuhh

Zuhh

You broke the clan apart when you pulled at others in space, chasing lust and plots.

The War Boss flinches as if struck, then lowers the bowl to his chest. His eyes do not leave Zuhh.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Aye. I did that. I let hunger wear a clever face, and I called it strength.

The War Boss

The War Boss

I broke trust first, then I broke the clan with it. That is the shape of my shame.

He swallows hard and tips the red bowl forward, not offering it now, but presenting the blood as evidence of the debt.

The War Boss

The War Boss

If my daughter is the price, then say it plain when I call them. I will not hide it from their ears.

Below the dais, the relic stays dark and open, while the ogre waits for Zuhh's answer and the order to summon the clan.

Zuhh lifts his claw and folds the sun into the dais. White-gold light spills over bone and ash, and the relic answers with a thin, singing tremor.

The open secret on the stone is no longer hidden. The old mark flares clear in the brilliance, and the chamber has nowhere left to look away.

The War Boss

The War Boss

It is there. The price is real, and it is seen.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Clan of the mountain, look. This is what I paid, and what I failed to stop.

His voice carries, rough and steady, while the red bowl glows like a witness at his knees. The relic stays open under Zuhh's light, silent and fully exposed.

The War Boss

The War Boss

If you would hear me, come to the dais. If you would condemn me, do it with your eyes open.

No clan voice answers yet, but the invitation hangs in the chamber like a drawn blade, and the light keeps the truth in place.

The War Boss

By the black debt, I take the quest. Huma will be sought, found, and brought before this truth.

The words land hard. The red bowl flashes in the white-gold glare, and the exposed relic gives no protest, only silence.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Let the clan hear it. Let them know the burden is mine, and the road to answer begins now.

He rises from one knee to both feet, still bent at the shoulders, and turns toward the chamber below the dais.

The War Boss

The War Boss

Mountain clan, witness me. I go to seek Huma for the debt I spent.

The nearest ogres stir at the edge of the dark, pulled into the light by his confession. The silence breaks into a tense, listening hush, waiting for who moves first.

Through the War Boss’s eyes, Zuhh stands vast in the white-gold glare, and the surging swarm around the relic resolves at last into one shape: a human form buried inside its noise. Huma is there, locked in the churn, his outline split by chaos and held in place by the spell’s grip.

The War Boss

The War Boss

There. The soul-mark does not hide him. It holds him.

The pressure in the chamber eases for one sharp breath, as if the magic has been named and can no longer pretend to be only smoke and light.

Zuhh

Huma is inside the swarm.

The War Boss leans forward on the dais, staring at the exposed relic and the figure within it, as though expecting the old debt to speak back through that trapped shape.

The War Boss

The War Boss

That is him. Huma is within the binding, and I see now what the rite made of him.

Zuhh lowers his head toward the trapped shape and threads his will into the binding. The white-gold glare bends, not breaking, but making room.

A second presence answers from within the swarm. Huma’s outline stops shuddering and takes on weight, as if the soul-mark finds a handhold.

Huma

Huma

Something is touching the knot from the outside... and it is not the rite.

Through the link, Zuhh’s power braces Huma’s motion. The trapped figure draws a breath and turns its shoulder toward the opening in the light.

The War Boss

The War Boss

He moves. By the old debt, he moves.

The swarm loosens around Huma’s chest, still fierce, but no longer a cage. The relic’s glare flickers in ragged pulses across the dais.

Huma reaches one arm outward through the binding, and the chamber waits to see whether Zuhh lets the soul-link hold.

The binding yields. Huma’s outline pulls free of the swarm, no longer trapped in the light, only dragged through its last strands.

Huma

Huma

I am out... I am out of it.

The black lattice at the relic’s core gutters under Zuhh’s pressure, its edges snapping back as if struck from within.

The War Boss surges up from his kneel, then catches himself, staring at the emptying glare with both hands half-raised.

The War Boss

The mark is broken from the cage. Tell me what remains of it.

In the light’s fading spill, Huma reaches toward Zuhh and the broken relic, suspended between relief and whatever answer comes next.
