The Summoning Trail Revealed
Eradan
Eradan

Eradan leads Tsumiki beneath the summoning hall, down a spiral stair where blue ward-runes glimmer between ancient stones. The mage college’s noise fades above them.

She unlocks a black iron door with a touch of psionic light. Beyond it waits a circular archive chamber, its shelves sealed behind silver lattice and its air cold with old magic.

Eradan

Eradan

The others remained above. I brought you alone because this chamber remembers magic more faithfully than the hall does.

At the chamber’s center, a crystal basin holds a fading violet reflection. It resembles a distant star seen through deep water, trembling as Tsumiki enters.

The reflection brightens around Tsumiki’s halo. Threads of colored light unspool across the basin, converging from countless unseen roads toward one remote point.

Eradan

Eradan

That is not a random echo. The summoning drew power from across Fantasia and bent it toward somewhere distant. If we study the trail, whoever gathered it may notice us.

Eradan

Eradan

I can keep the wards quiet for a little while. But once we touch the reflection, the chamber may answer back.

The violet image dims, then flares once more beneath Tsumiki’s presence. Eradan stands beside the basin, one hand raised over the wards, waiting for Tsumiki’s response.

Tsumiki

All right... I’ll touch it.

Tsumiki places her hand against the basin’s violet reflection. The crystal accepts her touch without resistance, its cold surface blooming into silent rings of light.

The archive vanishes beneath a vast image of starless emptiness: endless dark, scattered with distant violet glimmers, with no kingdom, road, or living horizon anywhere within it.

Eradan

Eradan

That is where you came from. Not another realm, I think. Somewhere beyond Fantasia’s ordered skies.

The reflection gathers around Tsumiki’s silhouette, showing her cosmic halo suspended in the ancient void. For one calm moment, the basin reveals only origin, not danger.

Eradan

Eradan

A being from such emptiness, yet she carries no trace of a summons’ command.

The image slowly settles back into a single violet point beneath Tsumiki’s hand. The chamber remains quiet, and the wards hold exactly as Eradan promised.

Tsumiki

So what now?

The violet point steadies beneath Tsumiki’s palm, and its scattered threads resolve into a clear pattern: the summoning has ended, but its gathered power once converged on a distant place in Fantasia.

Eradan

Eradan

Now we trace that convergence through Fantasia’s records. The archive can tell us where the power gathered, and who was positioned to call it.

Eradan lifts her hand from the ward-runes. The crystal basin dims, preserving the answer but surrendering the finer threads that might have revealed an exact name or road.

Eradan

Eradan

I know the next step, though not the final destination. We consult the college’s older maps, then follow the strongest convergence beyond these walls.

The fading image leaves one certainty behind: Tsumiki is no longer being summoned. Whatever lies ahead must be found by traveling through this living world, not by reopening the void.

Eradan

Eradan

The cost is time. The trail has already blurred while we studied its origin, so every further question will narrow what remains. Come. I will show you the records.

Eradan turns from the basin and crosses to the archive’s silver lattice. With a gesture, its sealed doors unfold, revealing shelves of maps, ledgers, and crystal memory tablets.

Eradan

Eradan

The oldest records are kept apart from the college’s public histories. They may show where the convergence began, before its traces scattered.

Tsumiki follows her into the archive. Cold dust stirs beneath her steps, while faint violet lines awaken across several map cases as her presence passes.

Eradan

Eradan

There. The western routes are responding. That does not name the caller, but it gives us a direction to investigate.

Eradan places both hands over a broad map of Fantasia. Rivers, mountain chains, and old roads rise in colored relief, while one distant region glows with a restrained violet pulse.

Eradan

Eradan

We begin there. I will gather the records we need, and you can see what this world has made of the path ahead.

The archive settles around them, no longer a sealed chamber of origins but the first threshold of a journey through Fantasia. The violet pulse continues, patient and distant.

We will need gear for our journey through Fantasia.

Eradan studies the western map, then closes the case with a decisive gesture. She leads Tsumiki from the archive toward the college’s requisition rooms.

Eradan

Eradan

A sound plan. The college keeps travel packs, warded cloaks, provisions, and road charts for sanctioned expeditions.

Eradan unlocks a cramped storeroom beneath the western stair. Tsumiki finds a sturdy travel pack, weatherproof cloak, flint, provisions, a lantern, and a detailed map of Fantasia’s western routes.

Eradan

Eradan

Take these. The map is older than I hoped, but it marks wells and sheltered roads. We must verify its western passages before trusting them.

The preparations consume the remainder of the afternoon. By the time the pack is secured, the newest road ledgers remain unchecked, leaving the route’s recent changes uncertain.

Eradan

Eradan

You have what we can safely provide. At first light, we leave the college and follow the violet pulse west.

The journey’s supplies are ready, but the map cannot confirm the road ahead.

Beside Tsumiki, space parts along a clean violet seam. The opening reveals a quiet pocket of starless darkness, stable and deep enough to hold the expedition’s burden.

The travel pack, weatherproof cloak, flint, provisions, lantern, and western road map rise gently from the storeroom floor, drawn toward the rift without disturbing the dust.

Eradan

Eradan

That is considerably more practical than carrying everything by hand. Keep the aperture close, and the road will trouble you less.

Each item crosses the threshold and settles in the hidden space, arranged in clear layers. The supplies remain dry, visible, and readily accessible beyond the shimmering edge.

Eradan

Eradan

A private storehouse woven from space itself. I have never seen a passage answer so naturally to its maker.

Eradan checks the storeroom shelves, finding them empty of the chosen equipment, then looks back to the open rift with wary admiration. Its violet light paints the stones.

The storage portal holds steady beside Tsumiki, its mouth waiting like a doorway carried from the void. The journey’s gear is secured, and nothing remains to pack.

Tsumiki

Are you ready?

Tsumiki’s question hangs softly beneath the western stair. Beside her, the violet storage portal shimmers with the packed expedition gear beyond its threshold.

Eradan

Eradan

I am ready. Close that doorway, and we leave at first light.

Eradan’s answer is calm, but her gaze lingers on the rift with renewed caution. The impossible convenience has earned Tsumiki a place in her plans and a question in her confidence.

Eradan

Eradan

I will guide you west, but you owe me honesty about what you can do. I will not conceal that concern from the college if asked.

The violet seam folds shut at Tsumiki’s command, leaving only ordinary stone and the weight of Eradan’s condition between them. The supplies remain secured within the hidden space.

Eradan takes up the western map and turns toward the stair. The route is settled, the gear is ready, and her cooperation now carries a clear price: candor owed before the journey begins.

Tsumiki

I’ll tell you along the way.

Eradan pauses on the stair, the western map held against her side. Her expression stays kind, but the promise does not fully ease the caution in her eyes.

Eradan

Eradan

That tells me when, not what. I can work with it only if we agree what must be spoken before it becomes dangerous.

She unfolds the map again and taps three marked waystations along the western road. Their names glow faintly beneath her finger, preserved by old warding ink.

Eradan

Eradan

At each waystation, we stop and compare what you remember with what the records say. If your origin touches the summoning, we speak of it before the next road.

The arrangement leaves her unconvinced about immediate candor, yet it offers a clear route for trust: three places where Tsumiki can choose what to reveal and learn Fantasia’s history in return.

Okay, where do we go to reach the first waystation?

Eradan

Eradan

West, naturally. Take the college road until it divides, then follow the old marker stones toward the first waystation.

Eradan taps the western road, but her explanation skips between landmarks and distances. The warded ink shifts beneath her finger, blurring the fork’s name before settling again.

Eradan

Eradan

No. That is too imprecise. You will follow my guidance from the college gate, and I will identify each turn as we reach it.

She folds the map before it can reveal more, sliding it beneath her arm. The route is no longer a shared exercise in navigation, but a journey dependent on Eradan’s directions.

Eradan

Eradan

At first light, we leave by the western gate. Stay beside me, and the first waystation will be our opening lesson in Fantasia.

Eradan resumes climbing the stair, expecting Tsumiki behind her. Above, evening light gathers along the college corridors, while the uncertain western road waits beyond the gates.

Eradan gives a small, relieved nod and continues up the spiral stair. Tsumiki follows close behind, her luminous halo washing the ancient stones in violet light.

Eradan

Eradan

Then stay beside me, and I will make the road clear as we go. Fantasia is easier to understand one landmark at a time.

They emerge into the mage college’s evening corridors. Scholars and apprentices move through distant archways, while blue ward-lamps kindle along the walls as dusk gathers outside.

Eradan

Eradan

The western gate is ahead. Beyond it, the college road runs through the lower grounds before reaching the first divide.

Eradan leads at an unhurried pace, keeping the folded map beneath her arm. Tsumiki follows her guidance through the quieting halls, with the western road waiting beyond the gate.

“are you familiar with cosmic powers?”

SUCCESS (Poor Diplomacy, rolled +2)

Tsumiki

Tsumiki

Are you familiar with cosmic powers?

Eradan slows beneath the blue ward-lamps. The question catches her at the edge of the western corridor, with evening light pooling beyond the distant gate.

Eradan

Eradan

Familiar in theory, yes. Cosmic powers belong to the oldest accounts of creation, voids, and forces beyond Fantasia’s skies. In practice, I have never studied one standing beside me.

Her voice remains gentle, but the easy rhythm leaves it. She turns fully toward Tsumiki, silver hair catching the ward-light as her attention sharpens.

Eradan

Eradan

So yes, I can explain what the records claim. I cannot promise their claims fit you. That uncertainty is why I need you to tell me what you know before we leave the gate.

The answer gives Tsumiki a clear distinction between Eradan’s learning and experience. It also places a new condition on their departure: Eradan’s trust now depends on earlier disclosure.

Well... I can use all kinds of cosmic and void abilities, even the strongest types.

Eradan studies Tsumiki beneath the blue ward-lamps. The claim settles the question of capability, but its breadth draws a guarded stillness across the corridor.

Eradan

Eradan

Then I believe you. Cosmic and void power, including its strongest forms, is within your reach.

Her shoulders ease by a fraction, yet she folds the map more tightly beneath her arm. Tsumiki has earned belief in her abilities, while Eradan’s personal trust becomes more cautious.

Eradan

Eradan

That makes your honesty more important, not less. I will guide you west, but I will report this capability if the college demands an account of our journey.

Eradan turns toward the western gate again, accepting Tsumiki as a powerful companion while placing a concrete cost on the confession: the college may learn what Tsumiki can do.
