Lurien arrives beneath Asterion’s domed roof as stars vanish overhead in deliberate patterns. Their fading light leaves the observatory washed in cold, shifting darkness.
At the chamber’s center, the ancient celestial artifact awakens. Its rings turn without touch, casting a forbidden constellation across the floor and vaulted walls.
Far below, the seal protecting the kingdom trembles through the tower’s foundations. Dust sifts from the carved arches as a narrow radiance gathers between the floorstones.
Vaelthar
Lurien of the ancient bloodline, you stand where silence was mistaken for safety.
Vaelthar
The truth behind the seal must be faced before the kingdom can be restored. Look beneath the stars your ancestors taught you to trust.
Lurien
The constellation is not recorded in the observatory’s familiar celestial charts.
The radiance splits the stone in a perfect circle, revealing descending steps where no stairwell should exist. The artifact’s shadow points downward, though no light casts it.

“Lurien studies the forbidden constellation, his grey-blue eyes narrowing as faint celestial light gathers at his fingertips. He kneels beside the newly revealed staircase, tracing the unfamiliar symbols without touching them. Lurien: “If my ancestors went to such lengths to hide this, then whatever lies beneath was never meant to be found.” He rises, gripping his celestial staff, and turns toward Vaelthar’s disembodied voice. Lurien: “You speak as though you know the truth. Then tell me, Vaelthar, what exactly did my bloodline seal away?” Without waiting for an answer, he casts a protective spell over himself and descends the stairs, determined to uncover the truth before the kingdom's protection collapses.”
SUCCESS (Superb Magic, rolled +3)
The forbidden constellation answers Lurien’s study. Its symbols brighten beneath his hovering fingers, rearranging into a starless crown encircling a sealed black sun.
Lurien
If my ancestors went to such lengths to hide this, then whatever lies beneath was never meant to be found.
Lurien
You speak as though you know the truth. Then tell me, Vaelthar, what exactly did my bloodline seal away?
Vaelthar
They sealed away the First Eclipse, Lurien. Not a creature, but a celestial power that devours names, memories, and the stars that witness them.
Lurien’s protective spell settles around him as a transparent sphere of starlight. The unfamiliar symbols flare once, granting the ward a second virtue: the darkness below cannot conceal written truth from his sight.
He descends with his celestial staff in hand. Above, the artifact continues its measured rotation, while the stairway seals behind him without hindering his return.
Vaelthar
Your bloodline did not guard the kingdom from the Eclipse. They fed it fragments of royal memory, generation after generation, and called the sacrifice protection.
