WORLD & RULES

World: The Kingdom of Asterion Asterion is an ancient kingdom whose prosperity depends on celestial magic. For generations, its royal dynasty has maintained a mysterious bond with the stars, allowing the kingdom to harness their power for protection, magical research, and the preservation of its lands. Beneath its elegant palaces, royal observatories, and sacred temples lies a history deliberately concealed from the living. Magic System Celestial magic draws power from stars, constellations, and ancient cosmic forces. Lurien possesses an extraordinary natural affinity for this magic due to his royal bloodline. His abilities include astral perception, protective wards, celestial illumination, magical barriers, and the ability to reveal hidden enchantments or forgotten memories. His silver staff channels his magic, while his enchanted signet ring strengthens his connection to the royal bloodline. Neither grants unlimited power. Excessive magical exertion causes exhaustion, physical pain, memory disruption, and potentially permanent damage. Void magic is the opposing force to celestial magic. It can consume light, distort memories, erase names, and weaken the boundaries between reality and supernatural realms. Its users are dangerous, but their motives and limitations are not always immediately apparent. The First Eclipse The First Eclipse is an ancient cosmic entity bound to Asterion through a royal bargain. It originally exchanged celestial power for voluntarily surrendered royal memories. However, the royal throne eventually began feeding it memories stolen from ordinary subjects without their consent. The Eclipse grows stronger by consuming memories, names, and celestial energy. It can manipulate perception, create false or incomplete visions, and exploit a person's deepest fears. It cannot be defeated merely through brute force. Understanding the original oath and the truth behind the royal bargain is essential. Royal Bloodline and the Oaths The royal dynasty has concealed the true cost of its celestial power for generations. The ancient oathbearers who opposed the exploitation of innocent subjects were branded traitors, and their names were erased from official records. Four known oathbearers are Maelin Thrice-Bound, Oryn Vale, Sera Nhal, and Tovan Ash. Their memories and sacrifices are connected to the sealed gate and the Starless Court. The Oath of Witness allows a worthy heir to pass through an alternate route without immediately speaking the final royal name. Story Rules Lurien is powerful but vulnerable. His royal heritage gives him access to ancient magic, not automatic knowledge or immunity to danger. Magical victories require effort and may carry lasting consequences. The reigning sovereign remains a living individual whose connection to the Eclipse has been revealed, but his complete motives and identity must unfold through the story. Vaelthar, a fallen royal arcanist who wields void magic, is a separate threat whose goals should not be assumed to be identical to those of the Eclipse or the sovereign. The story should preserve mystery, political tension, moral ambiguity, and meaningful consequences. Memories lost through magic do not return without a credible explanation. Characters should act according to their established knowledge, motives, and personalities. Major revelations must emerge through discoveries and interactions rather than appearing without cause.

HISTORY & EVENTS

**The First Royal Bargain** In the distant past, Asterion's stars began to fail. The royal dynasty entered into a bargain with the First Eclipse, exchanging voluntarily surrendered royal memories for celestial power that would preserve the kingdom. The original terms were limited, but later rulers began taking memories from ordinary subjects without consent to obtain more power. **The Erased Witnesses** Three witnesses discovered that the throne had exceeded the original bargain. They opposed the theft and refused to endorse further offerings. Instead of addressing their accusations, the royal authorities branded them traitors and erased their names from official records. Their emblems and remaining memories were preserved within the Starless Court. The known oathbearers were Maelin Thrice-Bound, who kept the western watch; Oryn Vale, who carried royal memories into the vault; Sera Nhal, who sealed the star-vault; and Tovan Ash, who served as witness and judge. Their final fates remain only partially understood. **The Sealing of the Eclipse** The royal ancestors bound memories into a celestial gate to contain the First Eclipse. The seal was tied to the royal bloodline and to the names of those who had sworn the original oath. The ancient guardian Ser Caldris Vey was preserved in celestial stone to protect the passage and its secrets. The seal contains a dangerous condition: the Eclipse may unlock itself when the final royal name is forgotten. However, remembrance can serve as an alternative to the original chain. The Oath of Witness provides a way into the sealed passage without immediately speaking the final name. **Lurien's Discovery** In the present day, stars began disappearing in deliberate patterns above Asterion. At the Royal Observatory, an ancient artifact awakened and revealed a forbidden constellation. Lurien followed a hidden staircase beneath the observatory, discovered the sealed gate, and awakened Ser Caldris Vey. Lurien uncovered the names of the four oathbearers and learned that the Starless Court contained the remaining royal memories. He and Caldris entered the court through the Oath of Witness, leaving the final royal name unspoken. **The Truth Beneath the Throne** Within the Starless Court, Lurien discovered that the three erased witnesses had opposed the theft of memories from living subjects rather than the original bargain itself. By deliberately opening his royal bond to the Eclipse, he exposed a living connection leading to the reigning sovereign, who continues to receive stolen memories through the bloodline seal. The Eclipse recognized Lurien and began pulling at his memories. His signet ring temporarily anchored his mind, but he suffered the loss of a specific childhood memory: the layout of his childhood library. The full nature of the sovereign's involvement, the Eclipse's ultimate purpose, and the fate of the erased witnesses remain unresolved. **Current Story State** Lurien is struggling against the Eclipse's memory pull inside the Starless Court. Ser Caldris Vey is beside him. The sovereign's connection to the stolen memories has been exposed, but the truth has not yet reached the kingdom. Lurien's immediate survival, the limits of the royal bond, and the consequences of his discoveries remain open developments. Future events must respect these established facts. New revelations may complicate them, but should not erase established consequences without a credible explanation.
