A Reckoning Over Endurance

Smoke hangs in the deep armory, thin and sour. Queen Araneidan steps over the fallen beast without looking at it, her gaze fixed on the dark stain spreading along Eden’s sleeve.

Queen Araneidan

Queen Araneidan

Do you mean to bleed out for a standard that asks more than you can give?

King Nazareth’s approval lingers in the air, but the Queen does not turn to it. Captain Vaelorin stills beside the line of soldiers, watching Eden’s arm with a hardening face.

The cut is worse than it looked.

Eden’s sleeve clings damply at the forearm. The pink runes on her skin glow through the smoke as she shifts her weight, refusing to let the injury claim her stance.

Captain Vaelorin

Captain Vaelorin

Your Majesty, she has already carried more than any of us.

Araneidan’s eyes remain on Eden, sharp with appraisal, not softness. The beast lies still behind her, and the torches gutter lower, as if the room itself waits for the answer.

✓ Quest Accepted

Endure the Queen’s judgment

As show of proof that i am not as fragile as my mother believes, i walk over to the cage that holds the dead beast and tightly grip one of the bars with the hand of my injured. Without breaking eye contact with the queen i rip the bar claen out of its position to prove that even when weakened i am still the strongest one here.

SUCCESS (Great Strength, rolled +0)

A Reckoning Over Endurance

Eden crosses to the cage and closes her injured hand on a vertical bar. The iron bites into her palm, but her grip does not falter.

She hauls once. Metal shrieks through the armory, then tears free in a spray of rust and snapped fittings.

The bar hangs in her fist like a broken spear. Fresh pain lances up her forearm, and a dark bead of blood spots the stone.

The injury still holds.

Queen Araneidan’s gaze hardens at the display, no longer only weighing the wound. King Nazareth’s mouth tightens at the sound.

Captain Vaelorin

Captain Vaelorin

She proves the point, Your Majesty. More than once.

The cage tilts with the missing bar, and the armory falls very still around it. Araneidan keeps watching Eden, as if deciding whether this is endurance or defiance.

+ New Item Acquired

Iron cage bar

I tear a piece of cloth and tightly wrap it around my injury to stop the bleeding before walking back over to the cage and repeating the previous feat of strength 3 more times to further prove my point.

SUCCESS (Good Health, rolled +0)

A Reckoning Over Endurance

Eden binds the wound with a torn strip of cloth, cinching it hard enough to slow the bleeding. The knot settles against her palm, crude but firm.

Then she returns to the cage and wrenches again. Iron screams. Another bar comes free, and the hanging gap yawns wider.

She does it a third time, then a fourth, each pull harsher than the last. Metal twists, fittings give, and the cage sags open around her strength.

Captain Vaelorin

Captain Vaelorin

Enough to make the point, and still standing. That is what the guard must become.

Queen Araneidan

Queen Araneidan

You hide pain badly, Princess. Better than fear, but not well enough for me.

King Nazareth studies the blood on the cloth, then the widened breach in the cage. Vaelorin holds his ground beside Eden, while Araneidan’s look turns from appraisal to something colder and more exact.

Fury builds within my eyes. If i am to prove to my mother that my strength is unmatched, i must achieve a truly worthy feat of strength. So i walk over to the cage and squat down to grab the bottom of it, i then stand and lift it over my head before throwing it through the stone wall of the dungeon.

FAILURE (Great Strength, rolled -1)

A Reckoning Over Endurance

Eden plants her wounded hand low and takes the cage by the broken seam, spider limbs bracing against the stone. The iron bucks as she rises, but the damage makes the mass lurch sideways instead of cleanly overhead.

The cage scrapes her shoulder, then slams crookedly into the wall with a shuddering crack. Stone chips burst outward, yet the wall holds, and the frame collapses half off her grip.

For one breath the impact reveals something useful, the mortar is older and weaker where the wall meets the floor. A seam spiderwebs there, thin enough to prize apart.

Queen Araneidan

Queen Araneidan

Strong, yes. But force alone is not judgment. Look closer, Princess.

Captain Vaelorin

Captain Vaelorin

She has found the weak point, Your Majesty. That is strength with purpose.

King Nazareth’s gaze shifts from the bent cage to the cracked stone, while blood drips from Eden’s wrapped hand onto the new fracture line.

The Queen’s expression hardens, not against the injury now, but toward the failure to break the wall. The opening in the masonry waits at Eden’s feet, and the next choice hangs on whether she attacks the seam or abandons the ruin.

Break the cracked wall

Fury builds within my eyes. If i am to prove to my mother that my strength is unmatched, i must achieve a truly worthy feat of strength. So i walk over to the cage and squat down to grab the bottom of it, i then stand and lift it over my head before throwing it through the stone wall of the dungeon.

FAILURE (Great Strength, rolled +0)

A Reckoning Over Endurance

Eden drives her body under the iron mass and heaves. The cage rises only a little before her injured hand slips, and the brute force twists it sideways instead of up.

Metal shrieks across stone. The cage slams into the floor, then skids forward in a grinding arc toward the crack, showering dust and chips into the torchlight.

The impact widens the weak seam at the wall’s base, but not enough to open it. What breaks first is the mortar, not the barrier, and a sliver of darkness shows behind the loosened stones.

The seam gives before the wall does.

Queen Araneidan

Queen Araneidan

Enough to learn, not enough to boast. Your injury is costing you leverage.

Captain Vaelorin

Captain Vaelorin

Yet the fault is revealed, Your Majesty. She has forced the armory to confess it.

King Nazareth watches the broken line open under the cage’s weight, while Queen Araneidan’s stare sharpens from appraisal to concern. The fracture now waits as a choice, but the cage hangs uselessly askew, and Eden must decide whether to push the weakness or answer the Queen’s judgment.

So i walk over to the cage and squat down to grab the bottom of it, i then stand and lift it over my head before throwing it through the stone wall of the dungeon.

SUCCESS (Great Strength, rolled +1)

Princess Eden Siranteos plants her feet at the cage’s base and takes hold beneath the iron ribs. Her wounded hand strains, but she refuses the pause the pain demands.

The cage comes up in one brutal surge, then higher, dust spilling from its seams as the floor groans under the shift.

Eden straightens fully, the mass rising above her head. The armory falls still around the sound of iron creaking in her grip.

With a violent twist of her shoulders, she hurls the cage forward. It crashes through the weakened stone and bursts into the dark beyond, scattering shattered masonry.

Queen Araneidan

Queen Araneidan

So. You can still break stone when it matters.

Captain Vaelorin

Captain Vaelorin

The queen sees it now. Your strength has not failed, Your Majesty.

The opening yawns wider, cold air spilling from the gap. Queen Araneidan’s focus shifts from the injury to the breach itself, and the armory’s silence tightens around the question of what Eden proves next.

I turn to the gaurds and order them to head south into the city and fund a mason that can repair the wall by morning.

SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +0)

Princess Eden Siranteos turns from the breach and snaps a command over the iron-sour air. The guard does not hesitate now, only stiffens, listening for the next order as rubble crunches beneath their boots.

Princess Eden Siranteos

Princess Eden Siranteos

South into the city. Find a mason. Pay him what is needed, and have this wall repaired by morning.

Captain Vaelorin answers first, sharp and immediate, and the nearest guardsmen move at once, already gathering cloaks and swords before the words fade.

Captain Vaelorin

Captain Vaelorin

You heard her. Two of you to the south gate, now. Bring a mason before dawn, at any cost.

The men break into motion through the armory, not with protest, but with purpose. Broken stone shifts under hurried steps as the gap in the wall stands exposed behind them.

Queen Araneidan

Queen Araneidan

Good. Let the damage be mended before it becomes a habit.

Queen Araneidan’s gaze remains fixed on Eden for one long beat, then cuts to the breach, cold and exacting. King Nazareth watches the order settle over the room, while the cold draft keeps tugging at the ruin in the stone.
