Echoes of the Shattered Sun Temple

Shadows dance against the moss-covered walls of the Buddha Cave Grotto. Moonlight filters through cracks in the ceiling, illuminating incense smoke that curls around a stoic statue.

A silhouette detaches itself from the darkness near the altar. It is a man clad in the dark, lacquered armor of an Imperial Enforcer. He turns, his hand resting on the hilt of a curved dao.

Kenji draws his blade with a sharp metallic rasp. The sound echoes deep into the cavern, and from the depths of the grotto, a rhythmic, mechanical clicking begins to accelerate.

Chun Li launches herself into a blur of motion, her leg snapping out with the force of a falling mountain. Her foot connects squarely with the enforcer’s ribs, the impact audible over the grinding gears of the grotto. Kenji’s blade whistles through the stale air as he stumbles, his desperate swing cutting only empty space before he collapses against the pedestal, his armor shattered.

Kenji sags to the floor, his breathing ragged and shallow as the mechanical clicking grows into a deafening, rhythmic roar. Huge stone slabs from the ceiling begin to shudder, dust raining down like snow upon the ancient statues.

Chun Li plants her feet firmly, muscles coiling like tempered steel. With a sudden burst of momentum, she launches herself upward, soaring toward the fracturing ceiling of the grotto. She defies gravity, her body slicing through the thick curtain of dust and tumbling rubble.

She reaches the apex of her leap, fingers brushing the cool, trembling stone of the upper ceiling. Below her, the floor of the grotto groans under the weight of falling rock. Kenji remains motionless near the pedestal, shielded briefly by the debris pattern, while the path she just vacated disappears under a mountain of stone.

Chun Li locks her eyes on a massive, jagged slab plummeting toward her path. She pivots in mid-air, channeling every ounce of her focus into her right leg. With a deafening crack that echoes through the shifting grotto, her heel connects with the stone's center of mass. The impact sends the boulder hurtling downward like a projectile, where it strikes the base of a supporting column with pinpoint precision. The ricochet clears a narrow, debris-free gap in the wall ahead.

The floor beneath the pedestal shudders, sinking further into the dark abyss. Time seems to slow as the grotto begins its final, heavy collapse, leaving only the sliver of light from the fissure as a lifeline.

Chun Li launches herself from the fractured stone, her body a blur of blue silk and motion. She threads the needle, vaulting through the gap she just carved into the wall. As she passes the threshold, the ceiling behind her finally surrenders to gravity, burying the pedestal and the unconscious Kenji in a mountain of jagged granite. She rolls across the uneven ground outside the cave, coming to a halt just as the last of the grotto's entrance vanishes under a cascade of dust and debris.

She stands up, brushing the fine gray dust from her Qipao. The silence of the mountain air replaces the roar of the collapse, leaving her alone in the clearing.
