Fae Talh slips into the night alley, the tavern’s roar thinning behind her. Cold air cuts through the close stone lanes, and the scattered token-illusions still glimmer on her coat and boots like pale coins of moonlight.
Above her, a hooded figure matches her pace from roof to roof, silent and exact. Every time she turns a corner, the shadow shifts first, as if it already knows the path.
A loose slate skitters from the eaves. The figure drops down into the alley ahead, landing lightly in Fae Talh’s path, one hand already resting on a curved blade at their hip.

The Hooded Figure
You carry the token well. Better than the mercenary expected.

Fae Talh
They know about the token.

The Hooded Figure
Hand it over, and I may let you walk to the amphitheater with your skin intact.
The alley narrows between damp brick walls, with the tavern light far behind and the rooftops pressing close above. Fae Talh faces a stranger who has found her too quickly, while somewhere back in the dark, the mercenary’s boots scrape toward the street.

“I lean up against the side of the ally wall giving an air of nonchalant confidence " OK you guys have my attention so who do you work for”
FAILURE (Good Persuasion, rolled -1)

Fae Talh eases one shoulder against the alley wall, letting the damp stone take her weight. The gesture is casual, but her hand stays close to her pocket where the token hides.

Fae Talh
All right. You have my attention, so who do you work for?

The Hooded Figure
Not the mercenary, if that is your next guess.

The Hooded Figure
I work for the Gilded Cup, and only for the Cup.
The answer lands cleanly, but the hooded figure does not advance. Instead, their gaze flicks to Fae Talh’s hidden pocket, then to the alley mouth behind her, measuring the space between her and the distant scrape of boots.

The Hooded Figure
If you mean to reach the amphitheater, stop wasting time on tricks. The token is only the first lock.
From the far end of the alley, the mercenary’s steps slow. He does not enter, but his shadow lengthens at the mouth of the lane, listening.

“I will. Cast a spell making three illustrations of my self as I use a spell to make my physical self invisible”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

Fae Talh draws a thin breath and lets the alley blur around her. Her fingers sketch a quick sigil in the damp air, and the stone seems to catch four versions of her at once.
Three false Fae Talhs split off from her shape, each a sharp little echo of red hair, horns, and intent. At the same instant, her true body thins and vanishes from sight, leaving only a faint shimmer where she stood.

The Hooded Figure
There. Move!
The hooded figure snaps toward the nearest illusion, blade lifting fast. One decoy darts back, another flinches toward the alley mouth, and the third slips low along the wall.
The mercenary lunges into view at the far end, then hesitates as he catches the wrong Fae Talh in the dim light. His demand for the token hangs in the alley like a threat with nowhere to land.

The Mercenary
Which one of you has it?
Invisible, Fae Talh is already gone from the center of their stare. The watcher is chasing phantoms now, and the alley itself no longer knows exactly where she is.

Fae Talh leaves A narrow medieval alley behind and arrives at the amphitheater.
“I run to the amphitheater”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled -2)

The alley coughs Fae Talh into a broad stone amphitheater, all weather-scarred tiers and damp seams of moss. Torchlight flickers across empty benches, and a lone archway hangs open in the far wall like a waiting mouth.
Her boots hit the hard floor in a low skid. The wax token stays hidden, but the hush here feels watchful, as if the place has noticed her before the people have.

Gate Warden
Late, but not lost. Hold fast, and show your token.
A robed gate warden steps down from the archway, palm out, while two masked attendants stand above him on the terrace rail. Their attention is fixed on Fae Talh, not the empty ring below.

Fae Talh
He knows the token is here.
The warden’s gaze flicks once to the shadows at the amphitheater edge, then back to her, as if checking whether she arrived alone.

Gate Warden
Candidates do not wander in unseen. Where is the one who followed you?
“I chuckle and pull put the token holding ot up for the man to see but I do not give it to him " who dumb dumb in the cloak I lost him easy so what's your deal here what is this tournament about?"”
SUCCESS (Great Persuasion, rolled +0)

Fae Talh
I lost the one in the cloak easy enough. So what is this place, and what is the tournament?
The warden’s sternness loosens a fraction. He does not reach for the token; he studies Fae Talh’s hand instead, then gives a dry huff that might be amusement.

Gate Warden
Easy enough, if you are quick and lucky. The Gilded Cup is a hunt dressed as sport. Some come to prove themselves, some come for prizes, and some come because they were pointed here.

Masked Attendant
And some are watched before they ever cross the ring.
The attendant’s voice carries down from the rail, flat and unreadable. The warden tilts his head, as if deciding how much truth Fae Talh has earned.

Gate Warden
You want the short road? Win the Cup, and the road opens. Fail, and the amphitheater keeps your name. Show me the token again, and I will tell you what kind of game you are standing in.
The torchlight gutters across the wet stone, and the quiet between them becomes a waiting thing, as if the next answer decides whether Fae Talh is a guest or prey.

“I hold up the token again for him”
SUCCESS (Great Persuasion, rolled +0)

Fae Talh lifts the wax token again, slow and deliberate. In the torchlight, its seal catches the warden’s eye, and his expression shifts from testing to recognition.

Gate Warden
Aye. That is a Cup mark. Not an invitation, a claim. It means someone has already taken your name into the game.
He finally reaches out, not to take it, but to angle its face toward the stair and the rail above, where the attendants keep watch.

Gate Warden
The Gilded Cup is no fair contest. It is a hunt, a bargain, and a test all at once. Cleverness buys breath. Bravery buys time. Poor fools buy silence.

Masked Attendant
And the watchful are not there by accident.
The warden’s mouth twitches. He does not look up, but his answer is aimed at the attendant as much as at Fae Talh.

Gate Warden
No. She learns it now because she asked cleanly, and because I owe her that much.
He lowers his hand, turning back to Fae Talh with a quieter, more measured tone.

Gate Warden
Keep the token hidden. If anyone else here speaks too kindly, be wary. Now, will you step inside under your own name, or mine?

“I nod and wave my hand using my slight of hand to make my token look like it vanished in stead I put it in between my chest amd bra "what's the differences if I use my name or yours?"”
SUCCESS (Superb Thievery, rolled +3)

Fae Talh gives a small nod, then threads the token from her fingers with a sleight of hand so clean it seems to melt away. In the same motion, she tucks it secure against her chest, hidden from the torchlight.

Fae Talh
What changes if I use my name, or yours?

Gate Warden
Names are doors. Yours opens the Cup to your blood and your bargains. Mine opens only the gate, and with less fuss.
The warden’s sternness loosens by a fraction. His gaze flicks to her hand, then to her face, as if measuring whether she understands what he is offering.

Gate Warden
If you walk in under mine, the attendants mark you as my charge. That can spare you one question, maybe two. It can also make other eyes sharper.

Masked Attendant
And it tells the Cup she arrives under protection, not pity.
One masked head tilts. The attendant’s attention settles on the warden, not Fae Talh, as if the answer matters to them too.

Gate Warden
If you want secrecy, keep your name close. If you want to be seen as chosen, use mine. Either way, that token now stays where only you can reach it.

“I smile "this contest favors the bold correct?"”
SUCCESS (Great Persuasion, rolled +1)

Fae Talh
This contest favors the bold, correct?

Gate Warden
Bold, yes. Reckless, no. The Cup eats the loud and the careless first.

Gate Warden
He studies her a moment, then gives a short nod. "You have the right of it. If you mean to survive here, keep your nerve and keep your name tucked away."

Masked Attendant
A low breath of approval slips through the mask. "She hears well. Good. The Cup dislikes fools who announce themselves."

Gate Warden
"There is no honor in being easy to find," he says. "Use mine if you want the gate to open quietly. Use yours if you want every hunter in the stone to remember it."

Gate Warden
His tone softens again. "Either way, I will not let them forget you are under my eye for as long as you stand in this arch."
The torchlight shivers over damp stone. Above them, the masked watcher remains still, but the warden's open counsel has turned the air less brittle, as if the first true answer of the Cup has been given.
“I enter under the wardens name keeping mine secret”
SUCCESS (Great Persuasion, rolled -1)

Fae Talh
Use your name, Gate Warden. Keep mine off the ledger.
The warden takes the token, then folds it into the crook of his palm and lifts his chin toward the terrace. A slate runner slips from the shadows and writes without a word.

Gate Warden
Then it is done. Fae Talh enters as mine, and hers stays buried.

Masked Attendant
A quiet choice. Not everyone here can afford one.
A scratch of chalk sounds from the runner's tablet, and the name on the page is not Fae Talh. The gate latch clacks open, but the warden's hand remains half-raised, a warning and a claim in the same gesture.

Gate Warden
Step through, and remember, if anyone asks, you are under my leave. That will cost me more than a courtesy later.
Fae Talh moves under the arch. The damp stone swallows her shadow, and the watch above settles on her like a weight that has now chosen a shape.
