Before Cynthia can leave the calibration station, the weapon racks split apart. A hidden maintenance lift rises with a heavy metallic clang, spilling ward-light across the concourse.
Elias Charon steps out beneath layered restraint bands, escorted by two silent academy wardens. Her dark uniform is scorched, ember-red eyes narrowed, and one hand clutches a blackened registry-crystal fragment.
Elias Charon
Do not mistake an escort for an arrest. I was diverted here, and I have no explanation worth giving you.
The fragment pulses once. Cynthia’s newly repaired focus answers from Toby’s brass cradle in exact counterpoint, making every suspended diagnostic pane flicker.
Toby Lin
That is not a normal registry resonance. Cynthia, the fragment is matching your focus geometry down to the fracture history.
Jackie Deadzone
Everyone stays where they are. If those restraints fail, I am pinning the whole lift bay to the floor.
Cynthia Vael
The fragment is synchronized to my repaired focus, not merely reacting to it.

Identify who altered the registry fragment

Keep control of the synchronized registry resonance
“I remain perfectly still as the diagnostics flicker, my sapphire eyes widening slightly as I look from the cradle to Elias's hands. Utilizing my Legendary Reasoning, I immediately perceive the underlying mathematical tether bonding our devices. Before the energy spikes further, I trace a sweeping sequence of vector lines in the air to project an isolation matrix between the brass cradle and the lift. By treating our synchronized resonance as a closed polynomial equation, I mathematically balance the feedback loop to stabilize the energy while actively tracing the source code of whoever altered her registry fragment.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -1)
Cynthia remains perfectly still as the diagnostic panes flicker. Her sapphire eyes widen slightly, measuring the identical fracture history in the brass cradle and Elias’s blackened fragment.
She sweeps one hand through the air. Blue vector lines interlock between the cradle and the lift, forming an isolation matrix that severs the resonance without disrupting either device.
The synchronized pulse folds into a closed polynomial loop. Each surge returns balanced, settling into a quiet, stable rhythm as the ward-light loses its dangerous flare.
Beneath the visible equations, Cynthia follows the resonance backward through its registry structure. A concealed authorial cipher resolves inside the fragment: a recursive null-glyph bearing the Obsidian Mezzanine’s restricted seal.
Toby Lin
Whoa. You isolated both signatures and traced the alteration source. That seal is administrative, not an ordinary student’s modification.
Elias Charon
You traced it without touching my fragment? Tell me exactly what you found, Vael.
Jackie Deadzone
The lift bay is stable. Nobody moves until we know why restricted officials rewrote Charon’s registry.
