Cynthia steps through the final exit gates into the Hexagonal Monolith’s vast central atrium. Her cracked spell-focus crystal hangs dimly in her hand as the arena wards seal behind her.
Professor Alistair Vance waits beneath hovering admission sigils, his severe face unreadable behind wire-rimmed glasses. Across the gallery, Elias Charon turns at the announcement and descends toward them.
Professor Alistair Vance
Successful completion recorded. Do not mistake examination clearance for exemption from the academy’s remaining evaluations.
Elias reaches the atrium floor, a broad young adult with cropped black hair, ember-red eyes, and volcanic sparks crawling over her dark uniform sleeves.
Elias Charon
So the drafting tool survives its own trial. Convenient. I was beginning to think the academy had mistaken spectacle for mastery.
Before Cynthia can pass, the admission sigils fracture into crimson geometric bands. A registry glyph unfolds above the polished floor, displaying two names and a newly appointed match.
Professor Alistair Vance
By authority of the tournament registry, Cynthia Vael versus Elias Charon. Official spatial duel. Immediate scheduling pending acknowledgment.
✓ Quest Accepted
Contest the registry's imposed spatial duel
A student who failed is immediately expelled; a student who passed receives elite rank and access to the restricted high-dimensional libraries.
“I look at the fractured crimson bands of the registry glyph, then lift my gaze to meet Elias's ember-red eyes. "A proof is only completed when all variables are eliminated," I say calmly, ignoring the dim pulse of my cracked spell-focus crystal. I offer a crisp nod to acknowledge the match. Utilizing my Extraordinary Reasoning, I immediately begin projecting a quiet baseline geometric calculation grid across the polished atrium floor, tracking the heat signatures and thermal vectors of her volcanic sparks so I can prepare a perfect counter-array.”
SUCCESS (Great Arcana, rolled +0)
Cynthia Vael
A proof is only completed when all variables are eliminated.
Cynthia gives Elias a crisp nod. Beneath her shoes, a quiet geometric grid spreads across the polished atrium, its translucent lines measuring each ember-red spark and tracing every thermal vector.
The cracked spell-focus crystal emits a dim pulse, but the projected array remains precise. Nested circles classify heat, direction, intensity, and recurrence without disturbing the surrounding admission sigils.
Elias Charon
You are analyzing my fire before the duel is even scheduled? How arrogantly efficient.
The registry glyph accepts Cynthia’s acknowledgment. Crimson bands realign into a formal seal, while the baseline grid records Elias’s volcanic pattern as a stable counter-array model.
Professor Alistair Vance
Acknowledgment confirmed. Elite rank is hereby granted, and restricted high-dimensional library access is authorized under Vael’s academy seal.
Elias Charon
Then keep your library privileges polished, drafting tool. I will make your equations irrelevant when the match begins.

“I calmly look down at the formal seal, completely ignoring her taunt. My sapphire eyes track the baseline grid glowing beneath her boots. Utilizing my Legendary Reasoning, I make a swift, precise micro-calculation using my Superb Magic Lore. With a flick of my fingers, I activate the stable counter-array model across the atrium floor. Translucent blue geometric lines rapidly lock around Elias's immediate radius, forming a dampening geometric sphere designed to compress and safely de-escalate the heat density of her volcanic sparks before she can expand them.”
SUCCESS (Superb Arcana, rolled +0)
Cynthia looks down at the formal seal, giving Elias Elias Charon no reply. Her sapphire eyes follow the baseline grid beneath Elias Elias Charon’s boots as every thermal vector resolves into ordered intervals.
Cynthia Vael
The counter-array is stable across the atrium.
Her fingers flick once. The recorded model activates, and translucent blue lines race across the polished floor, enclosing Elias Elias Charon’s immediate radius in a precise geometric sphere.
The sphere contracts by measured degrees, compressing the density of Elias Elias Charon’s volcanic sparks without extinguishing them. Ember-red light settles into a contained, harmless glow.
Elias Charon
You built a restraint from my own pattern?
Elias Elias Charon tests the boundary with a flare of heat. The sphere redistributes it through nested rings, reducing the surge to quiet sparks while the admission seal remains untouched.
Professor Alistair Vance
Counter-array deployment confirmed. Vael’s elite rank and restricted-library access remain fully authorized. Charon, contain your output within the registered bounds.
