Sapphire slips into the ruined shrine behind the Ranger’s trail. A low fire warms the broken sanctuary, and a few travel rations rest near it, briefly unattended.
The Ranger, a lean adult woman in a green cloak with cropped brown hair, studies movement beyond the shattered doorway. The Knight, a broad adult man in dented steel, guards the camp.
Near the rear wall, the Priestess, an adult woman with dark skin, braided black hair, and white-and-gold robes, brushes dust from a cracked altar. Faded sigils glimmer beneath her fingers.
The scent of salted meat and warm bread drifts through the cold shrine. Firelight touches Sapphire’s purple fur only when the flames bend, leaving her hiding place mostly dark.

the Knight
Hold. Something moved near the pillars.
The Knight turns his helm slowly toward the shadows. His hand settles on his sword hilt, but he does not draw, while the Ranger remains beyond the broken sanctuary.

Celia
Do you sense danger, Sir Aldren, or merely a wandering rat?

“*I wait for an opening to try and grab a single bag of rations. and attempt to go back into hiding with the food.*”
SUCCESS (Good Stealth, rolled +0)

When the Knight’s attention shifts toward the doorway, Sapphire glides from the pillars. Her claws close around one ration bag, and she retreats low through the shadows.
The bag catches against a broken stone and tears loose with a dry scrape. Several hard biscuits knock together inside, loud enough to carry across the shrine.

Sapphire
The food is in Sapphire’s paws.

the Knight
There. By the altar.
Sapphire reaches her hiding place with the ration bag tucked against her chest. Dust clings to her purple fur, and the torn seam spills a few crumbs beneath her fingers.

Celia
Sir Aldren, lower your hand. Whatever it is, it has taken only food.

the Knight
Only food today, perhaps. Keep watch. I want to see whether our hungry guest shows itself.

“*I look for water to soak the biscuits in, so I can eat it without making to much noise as eating it dry might make. I also use my hand to cover the hole on the bag to make sure I don't lose anymore food. I try to stay hidden.*”
SUCCESS (Great Perception, rolled -2)
Sapphire presses her palm over the torn seam, trapping the remaining biscuits inside. Keeping low, she follows the faint scent of damp stone toward the shrine’s rear wall.
Behind a fallen prayer screen, her fingers find a shallow basin fed by a thin trickle from the masonry. The water is cold, but clear enough to soak the hard food.

Sapphire
Water is here. The bag hole is covered.
She crouches in the darkness and dips the biscuits into the basin, keeping the ration bag clenched beneath her other hand. A bead of water splashes onto the stone.
The small sound carries farther than expected. Sapphire’s wrist scrapes the rough basin edge, leaving a shallow red mark, but the softened food remains secured.

Sir Aldren
There. Behind the prayer screen. I heard water move.

Celia
Do not rush her, Sir Aldren. A creature that hides may be frightened, not hostile.
“*I do not realize I made sound they heard and continue wetting the food to make it soft and quite to eat.*”
SUCCESS (Great Agility, rolled +0)
Sapphire dips the biscuits again, drawing water from the basin’s thin trickle with her cupped palm. The hard pieces swell and soften beneath her careful fingers.

Sapphire
The food is soft now. It will make little sound.
She lifts the softened biscuits from the basin and presses them into a quiet, damp mouthful. Cold water runs over her scraped wrist, stinging the shallow mark.

Sir Aldren
I can hear her moving in there.
Sapphire eats behind the prayer screen, keeping the ration bag beneath her arm. The crumbs make no sharp noise, but a dark drop from her wrist marks the stone.

Celia
Let her finish, Sir Aldren. Hunger makes poor allies of us all.

Sir Aldren
Then we wait. But she should know we are not reaching for our blades.
“*Once the food is consumed. I lean down over the puddle, my hands ether side of it. and start lapping up the water with my tongue.*”
Once the last softened crumbs are gone, Sapphire lowers herself over the shallow puddle. Her hands brace on either side as her tongue gathers the cold water.
The trickle ripples beneath her mouth, carrying away a few pale crumbs and diluting the dark mark from her scraped wrist. The ruined shrine stays quiet around her.

Sir Aldren
She is drinking from the basin.

Celia
Yes. Let her drink, Sir Aldren. The water is clean, and she has harmed no one.
Sapphire laps steadily until the puddle grows shallow, her purple ears catching the soft murmur of the fire and the scrape of the Knight’s shifting armor.

Sir Aldren
I am lowering my hand. No blade, no sudden step. She may remain behind the screen.

“"mrow?" *I turn around and see I've been spotted. I panic as I don't know what to do.*”

Sapphire turns sharply from the basin, ears flattened and tail puffed wide. Firelight catches her purple fur, the torn ration bag, and the shallow scrape on her wrist.

Sapphire
Mrow?
For one startled moment, Sapphire freezes with both hands near the empty basin. Her breathing quickens, and her gaze darts between the armored Knight and the open darkness beyond the prayer screen.

Sir Aldren
Easy. I am not drawing my sword. You are safe where you are.

Celia
There is no need to flee, little one. You were hungry, and you found food. That is all.
Sir Aldren keeps his lowered hand still and takes no step closer. The Priestess turns her empty palms upward, making the gesture plain in the firelight.

Celia
If you understand me, you may keep hiding. We will not pull you into the light.

“*I peak my head around the prayer screen. my ears flattened.* "Not hurt Saph? She is warry."”
SUCCESS (Poor Persuasion, rolled +2)
Sapphire slowly peeks around the prayer screen, ears flattened and purple eyes fixed on the lowered hand and empty scabbard. Her shoulder brushes the stone, making a faint scrape in the quiet shrine.

Sapphire
Not hurt Saph? She wary.

Sir Aldren
No, Sapphire. I will not hurt you. My sword stays sheathed, and I will not come closer.
The Knight answers at once, but his gaze settles fully on her face now. The scrape has revealed more of her than the darkness did, and his hand remains carefully open.

Celia
You have my word as well. You may keep the food, and you may return behind the screen whenever you wish.
The Priestess lowers herself beside the cracked altar, making her smaller without approaching. Firelight glints on the white and gold of her robes as she leaves the path clear.

Sir Aldren
Sapphire, are you hurt? I saw blood on your wrist. We can offer clean cloth, but only if you permit it.
“"Let Saph join? She like that." *My ears move to rest, as I brush down my tail so it's not as fluffed up.*”
SUCCESS (Poor Persuasion, rolled +1)

Sapphire
Let Saph join? Saph like that.
Sapphire’s ears slowly settle. She brushes down her fluffed tail, then steps from behind the prayer screen into the edge of the firelight. The movement jars her scraped wrist, and a fresh bead of blood slips toward her palm.

Celia
Yes. You may join us, Sapphire. Sit where you can see both of us, and keep your food.

Sir Aldren
You may share our camp. I will keep my sword sheathed, but let the priestess clean that wrist.
The Priestess shifts aside beside the altar, leaving a clear place near the warmth. Sir Aldren remains by the doorway, giving Sapphire the open space between them.

Celia
No grabbing, no sudden reaching, and no one will grab you. That is enough for tonight.

Sapphire
The fire is warm. The empty place is for Saph.
