The First Crack of LifeThe breach tunnel
The First Crack of Life

Two weeks of quiet have softened the tunnel. The alcove glows pale from the eggs alone, and the first dragon rests with his head near them, watchful and still.

A faint tapping comes from inside one shell, then another. A thin fracture draws across the surface like a silver vein.

The Elder Knight

The Elder Knight

There. It stirs.

The Scarred Knight

The Scarred Knight

Good. Let it wake at its own pace.

The Fighter-Butcher

The Fighter-Butcher

I have stood over horses in foal and hens on the egg. This feels grander, but the waiting is the same.

Kier 3 lowers his massive head a little closer. The bioluminescent glow paints the knights' faces blue-white, and all three stand back without retreating, as if holding space for a promise to finish itself.

The Elder Knight

The Elder Knight

If one breaks open today, we will learn whether it knows our faces.

The tapping continues, steady and calm. For the first time in days, the chamber feels less like a watchpost and more like a nursery waiting to speak.

I hum a bard song of barabrian quest lowly as they hatch

SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

The First Crack of Life

The first dragon lowers his head and hums, low and rough, the tune carrying like a half-remembered march through stone. The glow inside the alcove steadies around the sound.

The Elder Knight

The Elder Knight

That is a brave little song for a first breath.

The cracked shell answers with a brighter pulse. Fine lines race outward, and a pale warmth leaks into the tunnel air.

The Fighter-Butcher

The Fighter-Butcher

Old battle camps had songs for this, too. None were ever this quiet.

The Scarred Knight

The Scarred Knight

Keep it going. It seems to like the sound.

The first dragon keeps the note inside the chamber, and the fracture parts with a soft, wet click. A small head presses through, blinking in the blue-white glow.

The Elder Knight

The Elder Knight

It is here. Look, it sees us.

The newly hatched hatchling lifts free of the shell, slick and trembling, then turns toward the song as if it has already chosen a voice to follow.
