Edy’s burned palm darkens as she turns toward the chamber’s eastern wall. The blackened mark pulses in time with something beneath the pale floor.
Edy Cones
It only hurts when I face that way. Something is buried under us, or waiting there.
Powderpuff presses close against Edy’s side, her red eyes fixed on the shifting stains. Behind them, the torn breach seals another inch.
Powderpuff
Then we follow the pain carefully. Edy will not face it alone, and neither will I.
Dante finds the black roots tightening toward the same section of floor. Their tips knot together, forming a narrow, submerged line beneath the pulsing tissue.
Edy Cones
There is a sound beyond it. Listen. It comes and goes like footsteps, but too evenly.
A distant rhythm answers from below, slow and hollow, carrying through the chamber as though from outside the worm. The hidden route waits beneath them.

Discover what is making the footsteps beneath the chamber
“I press my sword tip to the hidden line and test the tissue carefully.”
SUCCESS (Good Perception, rolled +2)
Dante lowers the long sword until its tip rests against the submerged line. He applies careful pressure, feeling the tissue quiver around the hidden route.
The line is not a root. Beneath the pale membrane, it is a narrow channel enclosing something hard and hollow, carrying the measured footsteps from below.
Edy Cones
It stopped when you touched it. Whatever is beneath us knows you are there.
At the sword tip, the tissue thins without tearing. A dim gray mark appears beneath it, tracing the channel toward the eastern wall and revealing a concealed descent.
Powderpuff
That is a path. The sound comes from there, and the roots are showing us where it leads.
Edy Cones
If it is a way out, perhaps we can leave before this place closes around us again.
The footsteps below continue in their slow, even rhythm. The sword confirms the hidden route, and the darkened mark on Edy’s palm now points steadily toward it.
“I cut open the concealed descent”
SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Weapons, rolled +1)
Dante drives the long sword into the gray-marked channel and draws the blade downward. The pale tissue parts cleanly, revealing a narrow stair descending into darkness.
A breath of cold air rises from below, carrying the measured footsteps with sudden clarity. The hard hollow channel splits apart around the opening, its inner surface slick and dark.
Edy Cones
You opened it. I can see steps, Dante. They go down beneath the chamber.
The black roots recoil from the cut, exposing old stone beneath the living membrane. Faint gray symbols mark each step, worn smooth as though many feet passed there.
Powderpuff
Then we have a way forward. Edy, stay beside me. Dante, I will follow wherever you lead.
Below, the footsteps stop. In the silence, something answers from the stairwell with three deliberate knocks against stone, inviting them downward.
Edy Cones
The mark on my palm is pointing into that dark. Whatever waits below, it already knows we found the entrance.
