Torchlight seeps through iron bars in a cramped stone cell. Damp straw, a pail, and a hanging noose beyond the corridor tell the room exactly what it is for.
Buer crouches on the bench, tail curled around the edge, while across from them the exiled lord sits in his chains, jaw set and eyes burning at the floor.

Alaric Vane
You there. Small devil. If you can slip a lock, you can slip a rope. Are you listening?
He lifts his chained hands just enough for the metal to clink. Outside, boots pass once, then fade. The hour feels close.

Buer
Buer tilts their head and keeps their little knife ready, waiting for the lord to say something worth the trouble.

Alaric Vane
My friend sold me to the gaolers. Tonight he dines warm while I hang cold. Help me out, and I give you a name to ruin.
A key ring rattles somewhere down the hall. The cell door shudders in its frame, and the corridor falls quiet again.

Escape the prison cell
✓ Quest Accepted
Help the exiled lord escape
“I give a impish smile as I nonchalantly spin my dagger on my finger "hmm now this dose sound fun." I smirk looking at the man " very well good noble sir I will accept your contract" I wave my hands to cast a spell that unlocks the shackles”
SUCCESS (Superb Arcana, rolled +1)

Buer flashes that impish smile and lets the dagger spin once over their clawed finger. Their hands rise, fingers weaving a brief arcane sign in the stale torchlight.

Buer
Very well. I accept your contract.
A soft pulse of magic slips through the cell. The exiled lord’s shackles click open, metal loosening all at once.

Alaric Vane
He jerks his wrists free and stares at the fallen irons, surprise cutting through his grim face.
The chains spill against the straw with a dull rattle. Torchlight trembles across the bars as if the corridor itself notices.

Alaric Vane
So. You do mean to bargain. Then listen carefully, devil.
He lifts his newly freed hands, one foot already shifting under him, while the hall beyond the door stays silent, waiting.
“I smile impesly at the man and wave my hands tounlock his shackles. "I will accept your contract but payment is mine to choose and ot will not be coin"”
SUCCESS (Superb Arcana, rolled +1)

“I smile impesly at the man and wave my hands tounlock his shackles. "I will accept your contract but payment is mine to choose and ot will not be coin"”
SUCCESS (Superb Arcana, rolled +1)

Buer’s hands sketch the bargain in the air, and the last of the iron on the exiled lord’s wrists loosens with a dull clink. The lord rolls his freed wrists, then lowers his voice instead of raising it.

Buer
I accept your contract. Payment is mine to choose, and it will not be coin.

Alaric Vane
Good. Coin would be vulgar, and fleeting. What I offer is a name that can ruin a house, unmake an oath, or open a door no key can touch.
He takes one careful step nearer the bars, not to flee yet, but to be heard. The chains lie slack in the straw behind him like shed skin.

Alaric Vane
I was betrayed by my own court. They smiled while they forged the charge, then left me for the noose. Help me leave this cell, and I give you the secret name they fear to speak.
The torch outside wavers. In the dim, the lord’s expression softens from caution into a thin, exhausted trust.

Alaric Vane
If you want amusement, Buer, I can still provide it. But if you want leverage, listen well, and I will tell you where to point the knife.
“I smile and oat the man hard on the back as I get up from the bench and place my knife into the key hole to pick it. " I do so live being entertained as long as I stay amused I stay a friend"”
FAILURE (Superb Thievery, rolled -4)

Buer rises from the bench and closes the distance in one smooth motion, dagger turning toward the lock instead of the lord. Their smile lands as a quick, hard pat between the lord’s shoulders, more mockery than comfort.

Buer
I do love being entertained. As long as I stay amused, I stay a friend.
The blade slips into the keyhole. Buer works it once, then twice, but the warded mechanism catches with a stubborn metallic bite and twists the point off-line.
A faint scrape rings through the cell. The knife does not break free cleanly, and the lock answers with a dull click that is not freedom.

Buer
The keyhole is tighter than it looks.
Buer draws back a fraction, the failed pick leaving the door unchanged but the blade’s angle ruined. The bars stay shut, and the lord watches the damaged trick with careful, growing concern.

Alaric Vane
Then the door resists you as well. Will you try again, or do we find another way out?
“I frown and click my tongue slightly anoyed " well thats fucking lame" I cast a spell that breaks the ward with out trigger any traps or alarms and unlocks the lock”
SUCCESS (Superb Arcana, rolled +2)

Buer plants the focus against the ward and murmurs through gritted teeth, then the sigil gutters out like a snuffed candle. The ward falls silent, and the lock gives a clean, obedient click.

Buer
Well, that was fucking lame.
The iron door swings inward on a tired hinge. Cold corridor air slips into the cell, and the bars no longer hold either prisoner or promise.

Alaric Vane
At last. The ward is gone.
The Exiled Lord eases a step toward the opening, shoulders still tight, eyes fixed on the hall beyond the threshold.

Alaric Vane
You have your end of the bargain. I will have mine. Come, before the guards hear the door.
The corridor waits outside, dark and listening, while the open cell gives Buer and the lord only a narrow window to choose their next move.
“I follow him as quit as a shadow”
SUCCESS (Good Stealth, rolled +2)

Buer slips in behind the Exiled Lord, light on their feet, and the doorframe swallows their small shadow whole.
The lord pauses just outside the cell, listening. Buer settles exactly where the corridor darkens, silent enough to be mistaken for a fold in the stone.

Alaric Vane
This way. No torchlight, no noise.
He moves first, one careful step after another, and Buer matches his pace without a scrape of heel or chain.
Ahead, the corridor bends toward a faint orange spill of guardlight, while the prison behind them fades into wet dark.

Alaric Vane
Keep close. If they look this way, we are both dead men.
Buer reaches the bend with him, unseen, and the hall opens toward two possible turns.
Quest Complete
Escape the prison cell
“I smile and point to the guards "seems like that's the only way." I give a glea full smile "should we take them out"”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +1)

Buer angles a bright grin toward the guardlight and points down the corridor. The Exiled Lord follows the gesture, and his shoulders loosen despite himself.

Buer
Seems like that is the only way. Should we take them out?

Alaric Vane
He studies Buer’s face, then the bend ahead. They are not joking. Or if they are, this is the cruel sort that still might save him.

Alaric Vane
If you mean the guards, yes. But quietly. I have no wish to trade the cell for a grave.
He gives a thin, shaky laugh, then looks back to Buer with the first hint of trust in his eyes. The torch glow on the stone seems farther away now, less like a warning and more like a choice.

Alaric Vane
You already broke my chains. Tell me, what sort of help do you truly want in return?
“I smile a give a shrug at the man's question and I give him one of my knives "who knows I'll let you know when i figure it out right now let's have some fun " I cast a spell around the guards so they can not make any noise and no sounds of combat can be hear then I turn invisible and stab a guard violently on his neck from suprise”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +1)

Alaric Vane
Then I will trust your taste, demon. Take the name, and take your amusement.
Buer’s shrug turns into a showy little pass of the knife, and the corridor darkens as a hush spell spills outward. The guards ahead keep moving, but their boots, keys, and muttered checks vanish into dead silence.

Buer
Who knows. I will let you know when I figure it out. Right now, let’s have some fun.
The blade goes light in Buer’s hand. One moment they stand beside the lord, the next they are gone from sight, swallowed by invisibility.
Buer crosses the black gap between torchlit stones and a guard’s throat opens under a sudden strike. No cry escapes, no shout follows, only the guard’s slackened body dropping into the silence.
The exiled lord stares at the empty air where Buer vanished, then at the fallen guard, his trust curdling into alarm at the speed of it.

Alaric Vane
If this is help, it is the kind kings fear.
“I reappear liking some blood off my blade " OK slow poke ready to continue." I try to see if I cam see his fear”
SUCCESS (Great Perception, rolled -1)

Buer slips back into view beside the stone wall, a wet sheen on the blade as they casually clean it with two fingers. The exiled lord flinches anyway, then forces himself to keep looking.

Buer
OK, slow poke. Ready to continue?
Buer’s eyes linger on him, reading the fear under his composure. It is there in the tight jaw, the guarded shoulders, the way he keeps one foot angled toward the dark.

Alaric Vane
He returns from nowhere and acts like this is a game. Gods, he enjoys being feared.

Alaric Vane
I am ready. I am also, regrettably, aware of what I am standing beside.
The lord swallows hard and lifts his chin toward the corridor ahead, trying to recover some dignity. The hush spell still presses on everything, making his voice seem too loud in the dead air.

Alaric Vane
If you can read fear as easily as that, then you already know I am bargaining from weakness. Tell me, demon, do you want my gratitude, or only the look on my face when I give you the name?
“I gently nibble on the tip of nail looking surprisingly cute amd feminine " hmm honestly I just like fun and games so more than likely your pretty safe with me I do want that name from you but as for payment ehh we will see I don't know yet. You also never stated when I cam come collect my payment so your in debt to me till when I want something" I oat him nicely in the head "making deals with demons is tricky buisness but let's keep going oh and what is your name sir”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +0)

Buer tips their head, then takes a tiny, theatrical nibble at the point of a claw as if tasting the bargain itself. Their tone lands light, almost playful.

Buer
Honestly, I like fun and games. You are probably safe with me. I want the name, but payment can wait. You never said when I can come collect.
They pat the lord once on the head, a mockingly gentle blessing that still makes the corridor feel colder.

Buer
Making deals with demons is tricky business, so let us keep going. And your name, sir?

Alaric Vane
He does not sound cruel. That somehow makes him worse.

Alaric Vane
My name is Alaric Vane. If you mean to hold me to debt, then at least be precise about the terms.
Alaric says it softly, with a bruised dignity, and the barest flicker of relief when Buer does not press closer. But his gaze keeps dropping to the blade, where the cost of honesty feels written in the sheen.
“I smile and keep walking down the hall walking on the corps as of it was not there "nope you didn't ask me for precise terms you asked me to get you out and to help get and I quote "vengeance" on the people responsible for putting you to death follow of you want or don't but the deal was made and you sir Alaric vane conspire with demons”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +1)
Buer smiles and keeps walking, boots and claws alike skimming over the fallen guard without a glance. The hush spell swallows the corridor, making Alaric’s breath sound loud by comparison.

Buer
Nope. You did not ask me for precise terms. You asked me to get you out, and to help with your vengeance. Follow if you want, or do not, but the deal was made.

Buer
And you, sir Alaric Vane, conspire with demons.

Alaric Vane
He stiffens at the name, then at the easy cruelty of Buer’s smile. The words land like a knife turned flat.

Alaric Vane
Then let me hear the terms as you mean them. I will not spend my last dignity chasing a joke I do not understand.
Alaric falls in beside Buer, still wary, but walking. His gaze flicks to the body on the floor, then away, as if refusing to give the sight power.

Alaric Vane
If I am your accomplice, demon, say what you want of me now. I would rather bargain honestly than flinch in the dark.
“I roll my eyes " you don't get it do you my purpose is games my being is jokes amd fun and malice and pain you beo g tormented of this deal is feeding me but I will tell you this when a contract is made with a dln it can not be broken and in this addendum to the contract I will not cause you any harm physically mentally or emotionally out side of Any horrors I may cause dispatching stated targets in our contract. The payment I will ask for will be a physical object that I fancy or find amusing and will not be any people you hold dear"”
SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +1)
Buer stops just long enough to make the corridor listen. Their eyes roll, then settle on Alaric with a thin, delighted grin.

Buer
You do not get it. My purpose is games, tricks, fun, and a little malice. But listen carefully, when a contract is made with a demon, it holds.

Buer
In this addendum, I do not harm you, not physically, not mentally, not emotionally, unless it is part of dispatching the targets named in the contract.

Buer
My payment is a physical object I fancy, or find amusing. Not people you hold dear.

Alaric Vane
...That is either monstrously specific, or the first honest thing you have said to me.

Alaric Vane
If you mean it, demon, then I can work with that. I have spent too long among liars to mistake a clean bargain for mercy.
The hush spell drinks the last of his words, and the effort of speaking plainly leaves Buer with a faint sting at the back of the throat. Alaric watches them now without flinching away, measuring the shape of the bargain as if it might yet become real.
“I accept the deal and cast us both invisible as we finally escape the jail”
SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled +0)
