Inside the cave, the world narrows to warmth, sage smoke, and the soft crackle of Shaylani’s little fire. Beyond the mouth, the Sea of moving ice groans under the wind, distant and harmless for the moment.
Wulfgar Elkherder stands at the entrance, hammer in hand, his broad silhouette cutting the pale light. The firmer ice beneath them holds steady, and for the first time in many hours, there is room to breathe.

Shaylani
The spirits are quiet here. They are listening.
Her closed eyes soften, and the fire answers with a gentle pulse, as if it recognizes her touch. The shamans' calm settles over the cave like a fur cloak.

The Hooded Shaman
The path ahead is bitter, but it is not empty. Your wife steadies the spirits, and that steadies us.

Shaylani
The land is hurt, but not lost. Let the fire rest us a little longer, and I will ask for safer passage.
The polar bear lies near the cave wall, head on its paws, watchful but calm. The party gathers in a loose circle, the storm kept outside by stone and shared silence.
“Wulfgar prepares a meal of fish and seal blubber for his companions, wife and polar bear”
SUCCESS (Superb Survival, rolled -2)

Wulfgar kneels by Shaylani’s fire and lays out the dried fish and pale seal blubber with careful hands. The cave fills with a richer smell as the scraps sizzle in a small iron pan, and the bear lifts its head at once.

Wulfgar Elkherder
The fire is strong enough to cook fast.

Shaylani
You feed the body before the spirits can speak through it. That is wise, husband.
She leans closer, warming her palms, while the Hooded Shaman watches the food with a tired smile. Wulfgar’s knife slips once, nicking his thumb, and a dark bead of blood falls onto the snow-hard stone.

The Hooded Shaman
A small price. Better your blood than the tribe’s strength.
When the meal is ready, Wulfgar passes the first portions around. The polar bear takes its share without a sound, then settles again, chewing slowly near the wall.

Shaylani
Eat, both of you. The land still groans outside, but here the fire holds.
As the others eat, the smoke twists once above the flame and thins into a pale line, pointing deeper into the ice before fading. The cave goes quiet, waiting on what that sign means.
“After everyone eats and is settled, Wulfgar instructs the polar bear to search the whereabouts of this sorcerer. He assigns a watch schedule to the three warriors and retires to bed with shaylani”
SUCCESS (Legendary Animal Handling, rolled +0)

The last bites are gone, and Wulfgar pushes the bowl aside. He whistles low, and the polar bear rises at once, ears forward toward the cave mouth.

Wulfgar Elkherder
Find the sorcerer. Follow what the ice remembers.
The bear snorts, then lowers its great head and noses toward the thin air beyond the shelter, as if tasting a trail no human can see. The cave’s groan answers from deeper in the glacier.

The Hooded Shaman
The beast understands. If the spirits leave a road, it will read it.
Wulfgar turns to the others and lays out the watch in short, hard words, one shift for each warrior, the fire kept small, the cave mouth watched without blinking.

Shaylani
Good. Rest while the ice is still holding its breath.
When the watches are set, Wulfgar rises with Shaylani and moves toward the bedrolls. Behind them, the bear pads out into the dim with its nose low to the stone, already searching.
“Wulfgar and shaylani awaken after an uneventful evening spent well rested. They move to the cave entrance eagerly anticipating word from the polar bear that they have decided to name powder”
SUCCESS (Fair Perception, rolled +2)

Dawn finds the cave hushed and cold. Wulfgar and Shaylani rise from the bedrolls, and the lower fire paints the stone in weak gold.
They move toward the mouth together, boots crunching on frost. The air beyond the shelter tastes sharp, and the glacier groans somewhere deep beneath their feet.

Wulfgar Elkherder
Powder should be there.
At the entrance, the polar bear waits in the dim, head low over the ice. A trail of disturbed snow leads from its paws to a dark seam in the glacier wall.

Shaylani
It found something. The spirits are pointing us straight at it.
The Hooded Shaman comes up behind them and lifts one hand toward the seam. Frost shivers across the stone, and for a heartbeat the crack glows with a pale, distant blue.

The Hooded Shaman
There. A path, or a wound. Either way, it leads deeper than our feet can judge.
“Wulfgar pats powder on the head and feeds her a large portion of seal blubber. You are free to roam as you choose he instructs powder, and turns to face his companions”
SUCCESS (Legendary Animal Handling, rolled +2)

Wulfgar kneels by the bear and offers the seal blubber with a steady hand. Powder takes it at once, then leans into his palm as he pats her head, calm and ready.

Wulfgar Elkherder
Free to roam.
He turns back toward the others while Powder snorts once, then pads out of the cave mouth into the blue glare of the ice.

Shaylani
The guide chooses its own path now. Good. We have the spirits and the trail both.

The Hooded Shaman
Listen.
The seam answers with a low crack, and the glow inside the glacier widens into a wavering shape, like a passage opening beneath frozen skin.
The light is moving deeper, and it is taking a form.
