The party pushes out from the council ring into slush and mud. Hooves drag, breath steams, and the Sea of moving ice groans like a wounded giant. Ahead, a glacial shelf lies shattered across the path, its broken face still collapsing into black water.
Wulfgar Elkherder reins in at the edge of the ruin. The cold wind carries a stink of rot and old floodwater. Below the broken shelf, something pale and unnatural glimmers beneath the churn, like ice remembering a spell.

The Hooded Shaman
This is no simple thaw. The land is being pulled apart from within.

Shaylani
Then we do not wait. The spirits have shown us the wound. Follow it.

Three Warriors
We are ready, Wulfgar. Point, and we ride.
The horses toss their heads at the stench, but Wulfgar steadies the line and forces the mounted party to the shattered edge. Beyond the collapse, a narrow track slopes toward the distant white haze where the corruption must be spreading.

Bypass the shattered shelf
“Our mounts will take us no further, we must travel by foot. Wulfgar and his companions gather what supplies and materials they can handle snd free there horses”
SUCCESS (Superb Survival, rolled +0)

Wulfgar swings down from the saddle first, boots sinking in slush. The other riders follow his lead, and the line of horses begins to loosen as packs are unbuckled and shifted into human arms.
A warrior strips a bundle from one mare, while another frees a tangled lead rope. The animals snort and stamp, uneasy but no longer forced toward the shattered edge.

Shaylani
Take what you can carry. Leave the rest. The spirits will not thank us for overburdened hands.
Wulfgar and the warriors work fast, lifting waterskins, hard rations, rope, and a spare blanket roll from the saddles. The wind bites harder as their gear grows lighter and their burden shifts to the march.

The Hooded Shaman
The path on foot will be slower, but safer than riding into the collapse. Watch the ice. It is still moving.
One by one, the horses are released from the tight line and guided back from the brink. Hooves crunch through mud as they are left to wait behind the broken shelf, restless but free.
Ahead, the narrow track lies open for the tribe on foot, and the black water below the shattered shelf gulps at the falling light.

“Wulfgar uses his innate ability to connect with wildlife and calls for a polar bear knowing they can provide a safe route through the broken ice”
SUCCESS (Superb Animal Handling, rolled +2)
Wulfgar lifts his head to the wind and gives a low, carrying call into the white haze beyond the broken shelf.
For a breath, only the ice answers, groaning under the dark water.
Then a broad white shape rises from the drift ahead, hulking and fur-ringed, its paws finding the split ice with practiced surety.
The polar bear pads closer, not rushing, but certain, and the party stills as if the path itself has finally chosen a guide.

Shaylani
Good. It knows the old footing. Let it lead us where the ice still keeps its promises.

The Hooded Shaman
Watch its steps, and follow the gaps it trusts. We move now, before the shelf forgets us.
The bear turns toward the shattered route, and the tribe falls in behind it, the first clean answer the frozen sea has offered all morning.

“Wulfgar leads the tribe through the ice gauntlet following the polar bear”
SUCCESS (Superb Survival, rolled +2)

Wulfgar takes the front of the line, hammer low, shield turned to catch the wind. The bear chooses the first split, and the tribe follows his pace across the broken shelf instead of fighting it.
Ice shifts underfoot, but the bear keeps finding firmer plates before they tip. The Hooded Shaman and Shaylani match each step behind Wulfgar, and the party slips where a wider stride would have failed.

Shaylani
That way. Keep to the bear's line.
The fractured ground drops away to one side in a sudden white gape, yet the path holds. Wulfgar drives the column through the narrow throat of ice, and no one is left behind.

The Hooded Shaman
There, the shelf opens again. We have the crossing.
The bear reaches solid footing first, then looks back once, as if confirming the tribe has learned the route. Ahead, the haze still churns over the Sea of moving ice, but the shattered shelf is behind them now.
