Austin leads the way through the wet undergrowth, keeping low. Ahead, the cave mouth glows with lantern light, and two White Devils linger at the entrance, half-turned inward as if expecting company.

Austin Ithens
There. The entrance guard is thin. If we move while they watch inside, we can slip past them.
The hooded elf stops beside him, violet eyes narrowing. She studies the cave mouth, then the shadows above it, reading the ground like a map.

Striker
Good. I take the left, you keep them looking forward. If we fail, the girls die in chains.
A sharper cry echoes from inside the cave, one of the captives. The slavers shift, distracted for a heartbeat, and the lantern glow wavers across the stone.
The hooded elf glides into motion, already crossing toward the brush-choked flank of the entrance. Austin has the opening, and the rescue begins at the cave mouth.

Prove innocence to the hooded elf
“You summon your command over earth spirits and mold the ground into hands to grab the feet of the lookouts.”
SUCCESS (Good Arcana, rolled -2)

Austin presses his palm to the damp earth. The soil stirs under the leaf litter, then rises in two rough hands around the guards' ankles.
The lookouts jolt, both feet pinned as the ground grips hard. One lantern slants sideways, throwing wild shadows across the cave mouth.

Striker
Clean work. He does not waste force.
The nearest guard snatches at his blade, but the sudden pull makes him stumble instead of shout. His boot sinks deeper, mud climbing over the leather.
Austin feels the strain bite back through his hands, and a thin trickle of blood runs from one nostril onto the wet leaves.

Striker
Now. Keep them down.
Inside the cave, the captives' cries cut off for a breath, replaced by startled shouting from the slavers.
“You block of the entrance with earth spirits as you and the elf rush inside. "I've sealed off the front for now in case they have reinforcements. Don't worry, the soil and rock is very workable here so we can always make another exit."”
SUCCESS (Good Arcana, rolled +0)

Austin drags the earth again, and the cave lip answers. Stone and root knit together behind them, sealing the mouth in a rough, uneven wall.

Austin Ithens
I sealed the entrance for now, if they send help we can make another way out.
He pushes to his feet as the lantern light dies against the new barrier. The hooded elf is already moving, silent and sharp, toward the dark throat of the tunnel.

Striker
Good. Then keep your senses open and stay close.
Ahead, muffled shouting twists deeper in the rock, and the two girls are no longer at the threshold, they are inside somewhere beyond the bend.

Striker
He is useful when the ground answers him. That matters.
The first bend swallows the light, and the cave opens into a wider passage lined with rough tools and discarded rope, all of it waiting in the dark.
“You summon a faint light spirit in your palm to light the way. "You're a dark elf, yes? Why are these guys stealing your kin? I though that your kind had a reputation for being fearsome, why the hell would they risk upsetting you?"”
SUCCESS (Good Arcana, rolled +0)

Austin cups his hand, and a pale spirit gathers there, small as a candleflame but steady. The tunnel gains a soft rim of light, enough to catch rope fibers, broken stone, and the hooded elf’s quick glance back at him.

Austin Ithens
You’re a dark elf, right? Why are they stealing your kin? I thought your kind was supposed to be fearsome. Why risk angering you?

Striker
Fearsome is useful. It is not the same as safe.

Striker
These slavers do not know our people. They know only what can be dragged, sold, and hidden.

Striker
If you mean to help, keep that light small. Brightness gives away more than it shows.
Her voice stays low, but the approval in it softens into something more careful, testing him against the truth of the cave.

Striker
Still, that spirit work of yours is useful. Better than noise. Better than panic.
