The Waystone Opens the Road

The chamber doors shudder open. Maelin Orra, a middle-aged woman with a lean frame, ash-brown braid, gray travel robes, and a bloodstained ledger pressed to her ribs, steps through.

Maelin Orra

Kael Veyr. The surviving heir. I feared Veyrath had lost you to the years, or to the Void.

She braces herself against the doorframe, breathing carefully. Her gaze fixes on the dark crystal, and recognition steadies her more than the pain in her side.

The waystone has a dormant command. Bind your bloodline to its heart, then speak: Open the road remembered by Veyrath. It will spend no personal teleportation.

The command passes through Kael's inherited bond. Black-violet light floods the crystal, and a narrow Void passage unfolds without consuming either of his reserved teleportations.

The passage carries Kael to a high overlook above the breachway. From its defensible stone ledge, the ancient sealing pattern appears below as interlocking crowns around a broken center.

There. The crowns must be restored inward, not outward. You are ahead of the agents now, heir, but the pattern still waits for your hand.

✓ Quest Accepted

Restore Veyrath's breachway seal

“I study the entire sealing pattern from the high overlook before touching it. I use Great Magic, Great Reasoning, Perception, Lore, Arcane Heritage, and the royal waystone to identify the correct order of the interlocking crowns, any damaged or trapped sections, and how my bloodline authority can restore the seal safely. I follow Maelin’s instruction precisely, restoring the crowns inward toward the broken center. Where pieces of the ancient pattern are damaged or missing, I use the waystone’s bond to shape the required Void pathways rather than spending either of my personal teleportation uses. I keep my two personal teleports, attack-negation gift, magic reroll, and doubled melee strike completely reserved in case the Hollow King’s agents reach me before the seal is restored.”

SUCCESS (Great Magic, rolled +2)

The Waystone Opens the Road

Kael studies the entire breachway from the overlook. Perception separates the intact crowns from fractured arcs, while Reasoning reveals their sequence spiraling inward toward the broken center.

The outer crowns anchor the seal; the damaged paths must be rebuilt before the center can close.

Arcane Heritage answers the royal pattern. Through the waystone’s bond, Kael identifies concealed traps, missing channels, and the bloodline authority required to command each crown safely.

Maelin Orra

Yes. The old order still lives beneath the damage. Let the waystone remember what stone has forgotten.

Kael directs the waystone’s dark crystal toward the outermost crown. Void pathways unfurl across the breachway, replacing broken links without consuming either personal teleportation.

One crown locks inward, then another. Each restored ring feeds the next, while dormant traps remain silent beneath his precise bloodline command.

The final crown closes around the broken center. Black-violet radiance seals the breach, the ancient pattern becomes whole, and Kael retains both teleports and every reserved combat gift.
