James Lee vs A Martial Arts Academy

The attendants carry the unconscious second-ranked combatant beneath the veranda and toward the infirmary. The remaining students close around the courtyard, leaving James and the senior instructor in the open space.

A lean young adult man steps from the third row. Wei Chen has narrow shoulders, straight black hair tied at the nape, and a faded blue sash over his dark training clothes; a small mole marks his left cheek.

Wei enters without ceremony, his sandals whispering over the packed earth. Unlike the first two challengers, he keeps his hands relaxed and studies James from a measured distance.

Wei’s gaze shifts briefly toward the infirmary, then returns to James. The students fall silent around them, waiting to learn whether the declared challenge continues.

James laughs, the sound carrying across the courtyard. He settles back into his loose, uneven stance, then lets the theatrical ease drain away until only focused readiness remains.

Wei’s expression stays composed, but his attention sharpens. He lowers his center of gravity and shifts one sandal half a pace, testing the distance without surrendering it.

Wei exhales through his nose and advances. His steps are quiet and economical, disguising the moment his weight transfers forward. The students tighten their circle around the open ground.

James surges forward faster than before. His opening kicks cut across Wei Chen’s retreating line, forcing the composed fighter to abandon his measured guard before it fully forms.

Wei twists aside from the first kick and raises an elbow against the second, but James is already above his defense, leaning into a powerful overhead punch.

The punch crashes into Wei’s guard with enough force to break through it. Wei Chen is sent flying across the packed courtyard, striking the earth and rolling to a stop near the students’ feet.

The courtyard erupts in startled cries. James’s knuckles sting from the impact, and a sharp strain runs through his striking wrist, but he remains upright in the center of the ring.

Wei plants one hand and tries to rise. His breath is ragged, his blue sash loosened, while the watching students stare at James with newly guarded attention.

Before Wei can rise fully, James crosses the courtyard in a blur. His hand clamps onto Wei’s head, stopping the recovery with brutal certainty.

James drives his knee into the bridge of Wei’s nose. The impact snaps Wei’s head back and forces him flat against the packed earth.

Wei’s hands fall wide, his breath breaking into a stunned gasp. James releases him and steps back, his aching wrist forgotten beneath the momentum of the finish.

The students recoil as one. Wei remains conscious for only a moment longer before his eyes lose focus and his body goes still.

The senior instructor’s gaze hardens on James. Around the courtyard, fear has replaced curiosity, while the fourth-ranked student, a rigid young adult man with a wiry build, close-cropped brown hair, and a dark academy uniform stands rigidly at the edge of the circle.
