Loric bursts out of the root-choked arcade onto the ruin’s outer edge, the city walls looming ahead through a veil of dust. The Spymaster hangs limp across his shoulders. Behind him, cultist voices rise and close in through broken stone.
Ahead, a patrol cuts across the road to the gate, dark robes and hooked blades blocking the clean line to the city. Fresh dust on the stones marks a hidden passage yawning open in the broken courtyard to Loric’s left.
The cultist at the rear of the chase skids to a stop, sees the Spymaster, and shouts a warning. The patrol turns as one, bracing to hold the route.

A Cultist
Stop! By the relic, by the Seal, halt him!
Loric keeps moving, the cursed weight of the relic and the dead burden on his back making every step a brutal test. The city gate is still a dozen strides away, but the side passage offers a narrow, darker way through the ruins.

A Cultist
He carries the Spymaster! Cut him off!
✓ Quest Accepted
Reach the city gate
“I push my legs past absolute limit running as fast as I can carrying the unconscious by master and my bag of loot making sure I don't drop anything”
SUCCESS (Great Health, rolled +0)

Loric hits the turn and commits to the hidden passage. The Spymaster’s dead weight jerks on his shoulders, the loot bag slams against his hip, and the cold relic breathes frost through the cloth as he runs.
Dust bursts up under his boots. He clears the broken lip of the courtyard opening and plunges into the side cut, leaving the patrol’s straight path behind him.
Behind him, steel scrapes stone. The cultists cannot keep a clean line through the ruin, and their shouted warnings echo off the shattered walls.

A Cultist
He’s in the passage! After him!
Loric keeps his footing, but the sprint costs him. His wounded forearm flares hot, and the bag swings hard enough to knock loose a clink of stolen metal.
The passage narrows ahead into a dark, jagged throat. The city gate is out of sight now, and the path forces a new choice at the bend.
Loric leaves the ruins behind and arrives at The City gate.
“Using my agility I clear the way and it towards The City gate”
SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled +2)

At the city gate, broken torchlight skims wet stone and iron bars. Loric arrives in a hard burst of breath, the Spymaster still across his shoulders, his loot heavy at his side.
A patrolman turns from the gatehouse, spear lifting. Frost from the relic threads pale smoke through Loric’s load, catching the man's eye before anything else can.

Patrolman
Halt. Put him down and name your business.
Loric plants his boots on the cobbles and clears the choke at the gate, forcing space between himself and the spearpoints. The nearest bar stands open enough for a man to slip through, if he moves now.

Patrolman
No insignia, no warrant... and that one looks armed enough to split me in half.
The patrol bunches at the threshold, uncertain whether to block him or let the gate swallow him. One guard edges aside, eyes fixed on the unconscious noble and the spill of stolen metal.

Patrolman
Last warning. Step away from the prisoner.

“I speak with the guards now hold on this is a spy master I captured him from the ruins he leads the cultists I've come to turn him in”
SUCCESS (Fair Willpower, rolled +1)

The patrolman’s spear dips a fraction as the Spymaster stirs on Loric’s shoulders. Cold vapor breathes off the relic, curling between iron bars like ghost-smoke.

The Spymaster
He is carrying me to the gate... so he is not here to hide.

Loric
Hold. This is the Spymaster. I took him from the ruins, and I am turning him over.

Patrolman
You drag a noble lord in over your shoulder and call it surrender? Gods, man... who are you?
The nearest guards trade a look. One shifts aside, opening the line by a step, while another keeps the spear leveled but no longer charges.

The Spymaster
A mercenary would lie prettier. He tells the truth badly, which is often more dangerous.
The patrolman’s jaw tightens at that, then he glances past Loric, weighing the open bar, the bound prize, and the thinning margin before the gate.
“I put the patrolman on the ground for the guard surrendering him to the guard”
SUCCESS (Superb Strength, rolled -1)

Loric lowers the Spymaster to the wet cobbles with care, one strong arm under the shoulders, the other steadying the loot bag. The unconscious man settles on his side, breath fogging faintly in the cold vapor.

The Spymaster
He sets me down instead of using me as a shield. That matters.
The patrolman does not lunge. He shifts his spear tip aside and glances at the open bar, then at Loric, then back to the man on the ground.

Patrolman
If I let you through, I want no tricks. You leave him here, and you walk in alone.

The Spymaster
You are already choosing which law survives tonight, guard. Choose quickly.
The patrol line loosens another step. Behind the iron, the city waits in torchlight, and the cold vapor from the relic threads between all three of them.

Patrolman
Well?
“I speak with the guard , I have no trouble with this he has a criminal I am turning him over to you I will be on my way with no trouble.”
SUCCESS (Fair Willpower, rolled +0)

The guard lowers his spear point at last and gives the Spymaster a hard look, not a strike. His shoulders sag a finger’s width, as if a weight has shifted from law to conscience. The cold vapor curls across the stones between them and thins toward the gate.

Patrolman
Fine. He goes with the gatehouse, not with you. But he goes.
Loric gets the opening he needs. The patrolman steps aside, and the lane to the city clears by a body’s width. A little of the loot bag’s seam has split, and one bright trinket skitters against the wet cobbles near the threshold.

The Spymaster
A practical bargain. Unwelcome, but practical.

Patrolman
You hear him? He speaks like a man who expects to keep his teeth. Why should I trust either of you?
The guard keeps his spear low, but his stance opens now, not to attack, only to listen. Beyond him, torchlight stains the gate iron gold, and the vapor from the relic threads around all three men like winter breath.

The Spymaster
Because I am the trouble you can hold, and he is the man who brought it to your doorstep. That is the cleanest truth you will hear tonight.
The patrolman snorts once, then hooks two fingers for his nearest man to stand down. The path is open, but his eyes stay on Loric, waiting to see whether he walks through or makes the lie expensive.
Loric leaves The City gate behind and arrives at the city.
“I give no trouble with my bag of loot at my side I walk past calmly”
SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled +2)

Inside the gate, the city swallows the cold vapor in a single breath. Loric passes under the arch with his loot bag low at his side, while the patrolman turns his stare from suspect to witness.

Patrolman
Walk straight, then. If anyone asks, I saw nothing worth naming.
He does not raise the spear again. One hand stays out, palm half-open, as if he is still deciding whether this is mercy or cowardice.

The Spymaster
A wise man learns when a door has already chosen. You have your road, Loric, for now.
The Spymaster’s mouth curves with dry approval, but his eyes track the split seam of the bag and the glittering spoil that peeks from it.

The Spymaster
He kept the prize. He kept his nerve too.
The patrolman gives a short, grudging nod toward the city lanes. Behind them, the gate iron groans shut on the night, and the relic’s cold breath fades against Loric’s side.
