Adventure of Dolan Dash 1

Dolan Dash steps into the cave mouth on Mechanica Mountain. Ozone stings the air, mixed with scorched stone and wet mineral breath. Inside, moonlight from the opening catches a slumped mechanized robot against the wall, its metal limbs jerking in failing spasms.

Broken gears hiss somewhere in its frame. A dim core pulse flickers under cracked plating, then gutters low, as if the thing is losing itself by the breath.

Its trembling hand reaches toward Dolan Dash, fingers scraping sparks from the stone. The chamber beyond remains dark and unreadable, the shadows deep enough to hide another threat.

The plea hangs in the cave air. The robot's core flashes one last time, and the darkness around it seems to lean closer.

Dolan Dash lays two fingers against the cracked core housing, and his magic answers in a thin, steady ring. The flicker stops stuttering. Light gathers under his touch, small but obedient.

The robot shudders, then goes still enough to trust. A ribbon of pale data-light spills into Dolan's hand, and the chamber's cold haze briefly glows with hidden symbols.

The transfer locks. A sharp jolt bites through Dolan's palm, and the smell of hot metal rises from the seam.

A final pulse settles into Dolan's grasp, but the cave beyond answers with a low scrape from the dark tunnel, as if something heard the flare.
