The chamber answers with a low stone groan as Gethsemane and Kleo descend through the entrance, their shadows spilling across the ward-lit floor. Eden stands beside the sealed coffer, while Azreal’s blue glow paints the silver seam in cold lines.

It is sealed, then. Good. Tell me what has been mended, and what still threatens to crawl back through.

Kleo does not look at the coffer first. She circles the chamber edge, fingers brushing old mortar and fractured sigils, then stops at a thin smear of blackened wax near the wall.

This was not a collapse. Someone worked from within the shrine stone, carefully, and recently.

From a narrow side recess, a robed figure steps into the ward-light, hands raised in cautious greeting. Dust clings to travel-cloak hems and a satchel of vellum presses against their hip.

The Archivist

The Archivist

Do not strike me, if you would know the old bindings. I came because the shrine road stirred the archives in salt and dream.

Then speak quickly, Archivist. The provenance mark is set, and I would rather chase the hand that carved this breach than linger in its echo.

The Archivist swallows, eyes flicking to the coffer, then to Eden. Above them, the floor rune holds steady, its glow now even and watchful.

Eden steps into the ward-light and stops close enough that the Archivist must meet her eyes. The chamber seems to hold its breath around the sealed coffer.

Explain what you know about these bindings.

The Archivist

The Archivist

Gladly, if you mean to listen. These seals are older than the shrine, and kinder than the hands that later copied them.

The violet script is a catalog mark, a warning and a key. It names what was bound here, and what was feared enough to bury beneath stone.

Then say the name. I have no patience for scholarly fog.

The Archivist

The Archivist

The archives call it a hinge-binding. Not to keep something out, but to keep something in place while the wall remembers how to stand.

At that, Gethsemane moves to Eden's side while Kleo takes the opposite flank, quietly turning the chamber into a guarded ring around the coffer.

And if the lower seam is disturbed, there may be another void in the wall itself. A hidden pocket, or a second lock, waiting behind the first.
