Metal screams through the doorway as a second sentinel drags itself into the sanctum. Its armor hangs in split plates, violet sparks leaking from the seams.
It does not look at the Cloaked Figure. Its helm snaps toward the brace in Dyria's hand, as if the little rune-piece matters more than the room full of living bodies.

Echoing Sentinel
That brace is no repair. It is a key. Put it down, and leave the prison shut.

The Cloaked Figure
You come late, Sentinel. The seal is already moving.

Forest Guide
Dyria, don't listen. If it wants the brace hidden, then the brace matters.
The sentinel takes one step farther in, and the glyph-light gutters hard against the walls. The hidden seam beneath the shelves widens with a low, hungry groan.
Every eye in the chamber fixes on Dyria and the brace, while the air itself seems to wait for her next move.
“Depends on what the prison is for and only then will i decide to do with the brace but remember if I can find it so can others with ill intent”
SUCCESS (Fair Willpower, rolled +1)

Dyria turns the brace in her palm, and the rune grooves catch the violet light. The seam below the shelves breathes out a thin, cold draft.

The Cloaked Figure
It is the archive's lockbone. Without it, the chamber forgets what it is meant to hold.

Forest Guide
Then tell us who built it. We are past riddles now.

The Cloaked Figure
I built it with others who are gone. We sealed a thing that answered to hunger, not reason.
The cloaked figure lifts one hand toward the widening seam, but does not touch it. The flickering glyphs answer with a faint, unstable pulse.

The Cloaked Figure
If the brace is removed too long, the prison loosens. If it is set true again, the seal remembers its shape.

The Cloaked Figure
Will you hear the rest, or do you want me to stop hiding behind old titles?
“Let's hear the truth about the brace and what's locked behind it's seal”
SUCCESS (Fair Willpower, rolled -1)

Dyria
Tell me the truth about the brace, and what its seal is holding.
The cloaked figure goes still, then lowers their hand from the seam. Violet light slides over the rune-etched brace in Dyria's grip, making the grooves look deeper than metal should allow.

The Cloaked Figure
It is not a lock for a door. It is a memory-shape, set into stone so the prison can remember the weight of what sleeps beneath it.

The Cloaked Figure
Behind the seal is a hunger that learned to listen. It answered our rites, our names, and our fear. So we buried it under rules it could not cross.
The Forest Guide tightens his jaw, and the glowing blade dips as if the answer lands harder than any warning. Dust sifts from the shelf above as the seam exhales another cold draft.

The Cloaked Figure
You have the last brace. If you set it wrong, the prison loosens. If you set it true, the chamber takes a piece of you to remember the shape.
The brace burns colder in Dyria's hand, and the cloaked figure waits, hood angled toward her in open, grave silence.
“I set the brace in the proper place in it's truest spot”
SUCCESS (Great Arcana, rolled -2)

Dyria fits the brace into the seam’s truest notch. The glyphs catch at once, then lock into a steady violet ring.
The cold draft stops snapping and turns to a slow exhale. Dust lifts from the shelves, then settles as if the room finally remembers its own weight.

The Cloaked Figure
There. It holds.
A thin crack of light races along the seam, and a pressure in the stone shifts away from Dyria with a sharp shudder.
But the brace flashes white-hot in her grip, biting a raw line across her palm before the glow dims.

Forest Guide
By the old roots... it took the mark from you.
The chamber quiets, yet the seam now sits open enough to show a deeper dark beyond the archive floor, waiting in silence.
